Raiders 2012 NFL Draft Recap

Posted Apr 29, 2012

The Raiders acquired six prospects during the three-day process that is the 2012 NFL Draft.

As of March 25, 2012, The Oakland Raiders held two selections in the 2012 NFL Draft, which was just about a month away. The NFL awarded the Raiders three compensatory picks March 26. By the conclusion of this year’s Draft, the Raiders had selected six players during the three-day draft.

Four of the Raiders' selections in the 2012 NFL Draft were traded for five current players, including four who remain with the Silver and Black. QB Carson Palmer was acquired from the Cincinnati Bengals for the 2012 first round pick (17th overall).

The Raiders traded up last year to take T Joe Barksdale acquiring a 2011 third round selection from the New England Patriots for the Raiders 2012 second round pick (48th overall). The Raiders also got a 4th round pick from the Patriots in that deal and selected RB Taiwan Jones.

QB Jason Campbell, now with the Chicago Bears, was traded from the Redskins to the Raiders in 2010 for a 2012 fourth-round pick (109th overall). During the 2011 season, the Raiders sent their 2011 seventh round selection to the Seattle Seahawks for LB Aaron Curry. In addition, the Raiders used their third round pick in this year’s draft, to select Ohio State QB Terrelle Pryor in the 2011 NFL Supplemental Draft.

The Raiders first selection in the 2012 NFL Draft came at the end of the third round with the first of three compensatory picks (#95 overall). Hall of Fame cornerback Willie Brown was at Radio City Music Hall in New York and announced the Silver and Black’s selection of Utah offensive lineman Tony Bergstrom. The versatile offensive lineman started his final 38 games for Utah at right offensive tackle

With their fourth round pick, the second of three compensatory, the Raiders took two-time All-Mountain West First Team Selection LB Miles Burris out of San Diego State. Burris hails from Roseville, Calif.

In the fifth round, the Raiders executed a trade with the Detroit Lions and moved back 10 picks, and acquired a seventh round selection. With the first of two fifth round picks, the Raiders took Penn State DE Jack Crawford who was born in London, England. With their second fifth round selection (third of three compensatory), the Raiders added Arizona WR Juron Criner who caught 209 passes for 2,859 yards and 32 touchdowns during his collegiate career.

In the sixth round, the Silver and Black made DT Christo Bilukidi the first ever NFL Draft choice out of Georgia State. Bilukidi was born in Angola and played high school football in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

With the seventh round pick the Raiders acquired from Detroit, Penn State LB Nathan Stupar became the latest member of his family to join the Silver and Black. Former Raiders QB Jeff Hostetler is Stupar’s uncle. His brother Jonathan is a tight end with the Buffalo Bills.
