There were once 32 teams searching for postseason glory, but now just eight remain.
Of those eight teams, no one from the AFC West is left standing, in what's been a disappointing season for every team in the division. With the Oakland Raiders, Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs, and Los Angeles Chargers all officially in offseason mode, several coaches around the division have been relieved of their duties, while others have recently joined new organizations.
With that being said, let's take a look at some of the new faces in new places.
Denver Broncos
Aside from Head Coach Vance Joseph and Offensive Coordinator Bill Musgrave, the Broncos have completely revamped their coaching staff. The team made a slew of hirings Wednesday: adding Zach Azzani (spent last season with the Chicago Bears) as the new Wide Receivers coach, Greg Williams (was most recently with the Indianapolis Colts in 2016-2017) as the Defensive Backs coach, Chris Strausser as the Offensive Line-Tackles coach (formerly the Assistant Offensive Line coach), and Tom McMahon (spent last five seasons with the Colts) as the Special Teams Coordinator.
The Broncos, like many teams, have some work to do; we'll see how the new additions can help their roster.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs might have choked Saturday, well, not might have, they did.
At the end of the first half, the Chiefs held an 18-point lead over the Tennessee Titans, and eventually squandered that lead by failing to score any points in the second half. Led by former University of Oregon Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota, the Titans pieced together an impressive comeback in Kansas City to topple the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium. Mariota didn't do it alone however – although his deflected pass to himself for a receiving touchdown was crazy – running back Derrick Henry rushed 23 times for 156 yards and one touchdown.
Following the loss, the Chiefs began making some coaching changes.
Former Offensive Coordinator Matt Nagy was announced Monday as the Chicago Bears newest Head Coach, which led to Eric Bieniemy being named the Chiefs' newest OC.
Head Coach Andy Reid is known for his unique play calling, and dynamic offenses, so we'll see how his newest disciple performs in his system.
Los Angeles Chargers
For the most part, it looks like the Chargers will keep their coaching staff, as they have officially retained both of their coordinators, as Tuesday, the team announced Offensive Coordinator Ken Whisenhunt and Defensive Coordinator Gus Bradley would be returning to their respective roles.
"We'd like to keep this together if we can," Head Coach Anthony Lynn said. "I know some guys, the contracts are up. We're working on that right now. We're trying to keep this staff together, this nucleus together, because I think we got better as a coaching staff as the season went on."
The offense and defense both saw upticks in their production this season, and while the team didn't make a playoff berth, the future is looking up for the Bolts.
