Undrafted rookie free agent DE Ryan Robinson spoke to the media after Sunday's practice and discussed training camp and his preseason fumble recovery for a TD.
Q: What kind of role do you think you could have on this team?
Robinson: Speed rusher pretty much because I’m not heavy enough. I only weigh 250 so I have to use my speed against guys that are bigger than me.
Q: How do you feel like your development has come along? Seemed like you’ve played a couple good games…
Robinson: A couple times I was nervous but I just let the game come the way I know how to play. I just go out there and have fun.
Q: Do you think you’re at where you expected or do you think you’re doing better?
Robinson: I think I can get better, way better. I just have to stay low in my pass rushes and use my hands more and just stop thinking and just go.
Q: How do you make sure the moment isn’t too big for you?
Robinson: I just try to have fun, treat it as the experience. It’s been a long road to get here, but I’m just trying to take it one day at a time and have fun with it.
Q: Being a young guy, I know the mental aspect of the game can be just as hard as the physical aspect of the game. How do you think that’s developed as camp’s gone on?
Robinson: It’s been pretty tough being in the playbook, waking up every morning and being in meetings, being on time for meetings. You have to discipline yourself to do the right thing and get up on time. If you want to be a professional, you have to do things the right way.
Q: A couple of veterans there on the defensive line as well. Is there someone you can look up to and go ask questions to?
Robinson: Definitely Dre [
Q: How beneficial is it to have someone like that?
Robinson: Very beneficial. He’s been in the league for years. I feel like he can be a big help to me with my rushes and everything, teaching me the steps and everything like that.
Q: Being a little bit of a lighter guy...what do you have to work on to make sure you can hold your own against the run?
Robinson: Get off the ball, really. Get off the ball; get my hands on the guys first. I don’t want them to get their hands on me because if they get their hands on me, usually I’m going backwards and I don’t want that to happen.
