Raiders players, coaches and staff were saddened to learn news this morning that the father of Head Coach Dennis Allen, Grady, passed away last night due to cardiac arrest in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

The entire Oakland Raiders organization wishes to extend its most heart-felt condolences to Allen, his mom and siblings, his wife and their children for this loss in their family.

Grady Allen, 66, preceded his son at Texas A&M, where he played for Gene Stallings, helping the Aggies to the 1967 Southwest Conference title and a victory over Alabama in the Cotton Bowl. After signing with Atlanta as an undrafted free agent in 1968, the linebacker played 59 games over five seasons (1968-72) for the Falcons, all under Norm Van Brocklin. He posted two interceptions and three fumble recoveries.

Dennis Allen plans to return to Oakland Wednesday evening in time to coach the Raiders in their Thursday night game against Denver. He departed immediately after last Sunday’s game to be by his dad’s side.
