In the Midst of OTAs

Posted Jun 3, 2014

The Oakland Raiders began Week 2 of Organized Team Activities Monday and we heard from the Head Coach and several players.

The Oakland Raiders began their second week of Organized Team Activities (OTAs) Monday.

After the first session of Week 2, Head Coach Dennis Allen spoke with the media just off the practice field. “I thought we had some good work today,” said Coach Allen. “Obviously, there are still a lot of things we’ve got to continue to work on, a lot of things we’ve got to get better at. I liked the way that our guys have gone about trying to do their job. I like the focus and the intensity with which we’re trying to get our work done. I’ve been pleased. We’ve still got a long way to go, but we’re making a lot of progress.”

TE David Ausberry, FS Charles Woodson and LB Sio Moore also answered questions from the media.

Ausberry returned this offseason after rehabbing from an injury sustained in the second preseason game of 2013. He spoke about the competition at tight end, recouping from his injury, and working with new Raiders QB Matt Schaub.

“Matt Schaub is a tremendous player,” said Ausberry. “He came from Houston. He is tight end friendly, so that’s pretty good for us. We like Matt. He’s a good leader, great football player and is good for this team.”

Woodson spoke about the improvements on defense with the veteran additions. “I feel good about it. I really do. For me, I like to have a veteran presence,” said Woodson. “Bringing in guys like [Justin] Tuck, bringing in guys like [LaMarr] Woodley, those are guys that know how to win and know how to play the game of football. As I was just saying, that’s the difference you see out there, especially defensively. They’ve won. They’ve won in this league and they’ve won the big one. Having guys out there like that, you have leaders on the team that guys can follow, and that’s going to be important for us, so I feel really good about it.”

LB Sio Moore answered questions about learning from that veteran presence, as well as his growth from his rookie season to the offseason of year two. “I think I’ve learned more off the field than on, truthfully,” said Moore. “It’s really just the things you find that are important, the things that you value and you take care of, and really how you personally go about your responsibilities, day in and day out. That’s what I try to take from those guys, all the little things they do, the little details, that they hone in on and that make them who they are.”
