Jets Power Past Raiders 37-27

QB Matt McGloin completed 18 of 30 pass attempts for 245 yards and 2 TDs, RB Marcel Reece carried the ball 19 times for 123 yards and a touchdown, but it wasn’t enough as the New York Jets defeated the Oakland Raiders 37-27 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. in 2013 regular season Week 14 action.

The Raiders won the toss and elected to defer their choice to the start of the second half. RB Darius Reynaud fielded K Sebastian Janikowski’s opening kickoff and took a knee for a touchback. The Jets started at the 20 with Geno Smith at quarterback. The Jets settled for a K Nick Folk field goal. The 41-yard kick capped an 8-play, 57-yard drive and the Jets took a 3-0 lead with 11:13 left in the 1st quarter.

RB/CB Taiwan Jones returned the ensuing kickoff to the Oakland 22, where the Raiders started with Matt McGloin at quarterback. The Raiders opening drive stalled just past midfield and P Marquette King came on. King’s 48-yard punt landed in the end zone for a touchback.

The Raiders got the ball back when LB Kevin Burnett picked off a Smith pass at the Jets 37. The Raiders were unable to mount a drive and K Sebastian Janikowski came on for a long field goal attempt. The 52-yard kick was wide right and the Jets took over at the 42.

The Jets took advantage when Smith hit WR Jeremy Kerley for a 25-yard TD pass. The extra point was god and New York led 10-0 with 3:17 left in the 1st quarter.

Jones returned the ensuing kickoff the Oakland 19 and Terrelle Pryor entered the game at quarterback. The Raiders drive stalled at the Jets 23 and Janikowski came on for a field goal attempt. The 41-yard kick was good and the Jets lead was cut to 10-3 with 12:31 left in the 2nd quarter. The kick capped a 14-play, 58-yard drive.

Reynaud returned the ensuing kickoff to the New York 22. The Jets drive stalled and P Ryan Quigley came on and his coffin-corner kick went out of bounds at the Oakland 2.

McGloin came back in and threw an interception to S Ed Reed. The Jets started at the Oakland 4 after the return. The Raiders held the Jets to a field goal attempt. Folk’s 23-yard kick put the home team up 13-3 with 5:03 left in the 2nd quarter.

Jones returned the ensuing kickoff 27 yards to the Oakland 25. The Jets held the Raiders to a three-and-out and King came on to punt. King’s punt was blocked and recovered for a touchdown. After the extra point the Jets led 20-3 with 3:55 left in the 2nd quarter.

WR Greg Jenkins returned the ensuing kickoff to the Oakland 8-yard line. The Raiders drive stalled at the Jets 47 and King came on to punt. Renaud called for and made a fair catch the Jets 10. The Jets took a 20-3 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Jones returned the opening kickoff of the 3rd quarter to the Oakland 21. A few plays later, Marcel Reece blasted his way up the middle for a 63-yard touchdown run. The extra point was good and the Jets lead was cut to 20-10 with 13:58 left in the 3rd quarter.

Reynaud returned the ensuing kickoff to the New York 28. Smith capped the drive with an 8-yard TD run off the read-option. The PAT was good and the Jets led 27-10 with 9:15 left in the 3rd quarter.

Greg Jenkins returned the ensuing kickoff to the Oakland 28. A few plays later, McGloin hit WR Rod Streater for a 48-yard TD pass. The PAT was good and the Jets lead was cut to 27-17 with 6:18 left in the 3rd quarter.

Folk capped the Jets next drive with a 51-yard field goal. The Jets led 30-17 with 2:47 left in the 3rd quarter.

Greg Jenkins returned the ensuing kickoff to the Oakland 26. A Janikowski 40-yard FG capped the Raiders next drive and cut the Jets lead to 30-20 with 13:21 left in the 4th quarter.

RB Alex Green returned the ensuing kickoff to the New York 27. RB Chris Ivory capped the next possession with a bruising 15-yard TD run. The extra point was good and the Jets led 37-20 with 8:58 left to play.

FB Jamize Olawale fielded the short kickoff and returned it to the Oakland 22. McGloin capped the drive with a 1-yard TD pass to TE Mychal Rivera. The extra point was good and the Jets lead was cut to 37-27 with 2:24 left.

The Jets recovered the onsides kick attempt at the Oakland 46.The Raiders fall to 4-9 on the season and return home to face the Kansas City Chiefs at O.co Coliseum.
