Practice Recap - August 26

Posted Aug 26, 2014

The Raiders took the field for their final practice before facing the Seahawks Thursday evening.

The Raiders hit the practice field today for the final time leading up to their preseason finale against the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday, and the team welcomed back LB Sio Moore in a limited capacity after he suffered a neck strain last week in the matchup with the Green Bay Packers. T Menelik Watson also participated in practice.

Following the conclusion of the afternoon session, Head Coach Dennis Allen spoke about the team’s final preparations for the Seahawks game as well as the roster moves the Raiders made earlier in the day.

In addition to Coach Allen, both Raiders coordinators made their weekly statements to the media on Tuesday.

Offensive Coordinator Greg Olson addressed the status of QB Matt Schaub as well as the confidence that he has in the 2014 offensive line.

“I think we’re bigger up front,” Coach Olson said. “That’s encouraging to me right now. They’ve been able to play together throughout training camp. That’s been very encouraging, the fact that they’ve stayed healthy. As long as we can keep those guys healthy in the backfield, I think we’ve got a chance to be pretty good at running the football.”

Defensive Coordinator Jason Tarver also made his weekly remarks and spoke on several topics, ranging from the development of some young players, to the opportunity to face some read-option in the Seattle game.

In particular, he spoke to the mental fortitude of young CB Neiko Thorpe.“I’m impressed with his mental focus,” Coach Tarver said. “He does one play at a time. Some of the things that you guys have heard from me over the past few years up here, this young man, he’s focused. He wants it.”

Thursday’s preseason game provides one last opportunity for the team to work on game situations prior to the start of the regular season, and RB George Atkinson III was happy with what the Raiders have been able to accomplish on the practice field this week.

“It was a good day,” Atkinson said today after practice. “You just have to keep moving and keep striving to become the team you want to become in the future. It was a good day; we just have to keep moving.”

As happy as he was with the work the team put in this week, the rookie made it very clear he was looking forward to strapping on the pads and playing in a game.

“There’s nothing like game day, especially at home,” he said. “It’s our last preseason game so we want to show what kind of team we’re going to be, leading into the season.”

The Raiders have a walk through-tomorrow and then will take on the Seattle Seahawks at 7:00 p.m. PT on Thursday night to wrap up the 2014 preseason.
