Raiders Fall to Chiefs 24-7

The Raiders were unable to hang on to a 7-0 lead as the Chiefs scored 24 unanswered points to pull away with a 24-7 win.

The Chiefs won the opening coin toss and elected to receive. K Sebastian Janikowski’s opening kickoff flew out of the end zone for a touchback and the Chiefs started at the 20 with Alex Smith at quarterback. On the first play from scrimmage, LB Sio Moore recorded his first career sack. After allowing one first down, the Raiders defense forced a punt.

CB Phillip Adams was dropped immediately at the Raiders 18 after fielding a 49-yardP Dustin Colquitt punt. Terrelle Pryor started at quarterback for the Silver and Black. The Chiefs held the Raiders to a three-and-out and P Marquette King came on to punt. WR Dexter McCluster returned the 52-yard punt to the Chiefs 33.

The Raiders held the Chiefs to a three-and-out thanks to a 3rd down sack by LB Nick Roach for a 10-yard loss. Colquitt’s 38-yard punt bounced out of bounds at the Raiders 41. The Raiders drive ended when Pryor was sacked on 3rd down and King came on to punt. The 50-yard punt bounced into the end zone for a touchback and the Chiefs started at the 20.

The Chiefs next drive ended when DT Vance Walker sacked Smith on 3rd and long and Colquitt came on to punt. Colquitt’s 38-yard punt was downed at the Oakland 4. The Raiders drive stalled at the Chiefs 38 and King came on to punt. A penalty on the Chiefs moved the ball 5 yards closer and Janikowski came on for the 51-yard field goal attempt. The kick was short and the Chiefs took over at the 41.

The Raiders held the Chiefs to a three-and-out and Colquitt came on to punt to Adams. The punt was downed at the Raiders 22. Pryor capped a 6-play, 78-yard drive with a 39-yard TD pass to WR Denarius Moore. Janikowski banged the extra point through and the Raiders took a 7-0 lead with 8:40 to play in the 2nd quarter.

Janikowski’s ensuing kickoff flew out of the back of the end zone for a touchback and the Chiefs started at the 20. The Chiefs drive at the 39 and Colquitt came on to punt. Adams returned the 54-yard punt to the Oakland 14.

The Chiefs forced a punt after allowing one first down and King came on. McCluster returned the 51-yard punt to the Chiefs 40. A penalty on the Raiders during the punt moved the ball to the KC 45. RB Jamaal Charles capped the drive with a 7-yard TD run and the Chiefs tied the game 7-7 with 1:06 left in the 2nd quarter.

WR Jacoby Ford fielded the ensuing kickoff fin the end zone and took a knee for a touchback. The Chiefs forced a punt. King’s 64-yard boot was returned to the Chiefs 22. The home team was unable to score and the teams took a 7-7 tie into the locker room at halftime.

The Raiders managed one first down before the Chiefs forced a punt. The Chiefs started at the 34 after a 50-yard punt and a 4-yard return. The Chiefs drove deep into Raiders territory when CB DJ Hayden forced a fumble, which was recovered by FS Charles Woodson at the Oakland 8.

The Raiders possession ended when S Quentin Demps intercepted a Pryor pass and returned it to the Oakland 23. Kansas City took advantage and Charles ran it in from 2 yards out. The extra point was good and the Chiefs took a 14-7 lead with 2:01 left in the 3rd quarter.

Ford returned the ensuing kickoff to the Raiders 16. The Chiefs forced a three-and-out and King’s booming punt was returned a yard to the Chiefs 28. The Raiders forced a three-and-out and a punt. DJ Hayden took a handoff from Phillip Adams on the punt return and raced up the left sideline to the Oakland 34.

The Raiders went three-and-out themselves and King came on to punt. McCluster returned the punt to the Chiefs 18. The Raiders returned the favor with a three-and-out and Colquitt came on to punt. The punt rolled out of bounds at the Raiders 18.

A series of penalties and sacks drove the Raiders backwards and King came on to punt on 4th and 48. The punt rolled dead at the Chiefs 42.

The Raiders forced a three and out and took over at the 20 after the punt went for a touchback. The Raiders drive ended with CB Marcus Cooper picked off a Pryor pass and returned it to the Oakland 29.

The Chiefs settled for a 33-yard Succop field goal attempt. The kick gave the Chiefs a 17-7 lead with 2:09 to go.

The ensuing kickoff went for a touchback and the Raiders started at the 20. A few plays later, Pryor’s pass was intercepted and returned for a touchdown. The Chiefs led 24-7 with 1:35 to go.

The Raiders started their next drive at the 20 after a touchback. The Raiders were unable to score and Pryor was sacked on the last play of the game.

The Raiders fall to 2-4 on the season ending into their bye week. The Raiders will host the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 8 action October 27.
