Raiders Lose Heartbreaker to Titans

The Tennessee Titans came from behind twice and scored the go-ahead touchdown with 10 seconds left to beat the Raiders 23-19.

The Tennessee Titans came from behind twice and scored the go-ahead touchdown with 10 seconds left to beat the Raiders 23-19.

The Titans won the coin toss and elected to defer their choice to the second half. CB Taiwan Jones fielded K Rob Bironas’ line drive kickoff in the end zone for a touchback. The Raiders started at the 20 with Matt McGloin at quarterback. The Raiders settled for a 52-yard K Sebastian Janikowski field goal. The Raiders took a 3-0 lead with 10:55 left in the 1st quarter.

The Titans answered with a 33-yard Bironas field goal to tie the game at 3-3 with 3:38 left in the 1st quarter.

Jones returned the ensuing kickoff to the Oakland 22. The Titans held the Raiders to a three-and-out and P Marquette King came on. Although King shanked the punt, it rolled to the 22 and a penalty on the Titans backed them up to the 12.  

Tennessee drove to the Raiders 37 before Oakland forced a punt. P Brett Kern came on and his punt was downed at the Raiders 9. The first pass of the next drive was picked by the Titans and returned to the Oakland 11. The Raiders held the Titans to a field goal attempt. Bironas’ 22-yard kick gave the Titans a 6-3 lead with 11:55 left in the 2nd quarter.

Jones returned the ensuing kickoff 31 yards to the Oakland 28.  The Titans held the Raiders to another three and out and King came on to punt. WR Devon Wylie fumbled the punt but recovered it at the Titans 28. The Raiders returned the favor with a three-and-out of their own and Kern came on to punt. Ford fumbled at the end of his return but rookie WR Brice Butler hopped on the loose ball and the Raiders started at the Oakland 48.

The Titans defense forced a Janikowski field goal attempt. The 48-yard kick was good and the game was tied 6-6 with 6:25 left in the 2nd quarter.

Wylie fielded the ensuing kickoff in the end zone for a touchback and Tennessee started at the 20. The Titans drove out near midfield but the Raiders forced a punt. A personal foul on the Titans made it 4th and 33 at the 28. Ford called for and made a fair catch at the Oakland 23.

The Raiders drove to the Titans 6 but the visitors forced a field goal attempt. The successful 24-yard kick put the Raiders up 9-6 with 48 seconds left in the 2nd quarter.

The ensuing kickoff went for a touchback and the Titans started at the 20. The Titans drove to the 43 before the Raiders forced a punt. RB Jeremy Stewart blocked the punt and a completion to WR Rod Streater put the Raiders at the 13. Janikowski missed a 32-yard FG and the Raiders took a 9-6 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Titans took the lead 13-9 after WR Justin Hunter hauled in a QB Ryan Fitzpatrick and eluded two defenders and ran down the right sideline for a 54-yard TD.

Jones returned the ensuing kickoff to the Oakland 21. The Raiders settled for a 48-yard Janikowski field goal attempt. The kick was no good and Tennessee took over at the Tennessee 38.

The Raiders held the Titans to a three-and-out and Kern came on to punt. Ford returned the 42-yard punt to the Oakland 26. The Raiders drive stalled at the 24 and Janikowski came on for the 42-yard FG. The kick was good and the Titans lead was cut to 13-12 with 1:41 left in the 3rd quarter.

Wylie fielded the ensuing kickoff in the end zone and took a knee for a touchback and the Titans started at the 20. The Raiders managed to hold the Titans to a field goal attempt. Bironas’ 23-yard FG extended the Titans lead to 16-12 with 8:39 left in the 4th quarter.

Stewart returned the ensuing kickoff to the Oakland 25. A few plays later, McGloin hit FB Marcel Reece for a 27-yard TD pass down the left sideline. The extra point was good and the Raiders took a 19-16 lead with 6:10 left in the game.

The ensuing kickoff went for a touchback and the Titans started at the 20. Tennessee took a 23-19 lead with 10 seconds left when Fitzpatrick found WR Kendall Wright for a 10-yard TD pass.

The Raiders fall to 4-7 on the season and head to Dallas to take on the Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day.
