The Oakland Raiders have re-signed S Usama Young, General Manager Reggie McKenzie announced Wednesday.

Young returns to the Raiders after spending the 2013 campaign with the Silver and Black. Last season, he totaled 27 tackles (19 solo), one interception and a career-high 2.5 sacks, tops among Raiders defensive backs, before having his season cut short due to injury. He was also a key contributor on special teams, adding six tackles.

Young’s career totals include 93 games played with 25 starts, 209 tackles (156 solo), eight interceptions, 24 passes defensed, five sacks and two fumble recoveries.

The 6-foot, 200-pounder played for the Cleveland Browns for two seasons from 2011-12, setting career highs in tackles (66) in 2011, and career highs in games started (11) and interceptions (three) in 2012.

Prior to joining the Browns, Young played four seasons with the New Orleans Saints (2007-10), the last three of which were under the tutelage of Raiders Head Coach Dennis Allen, who was the Saints defensive backs coach from 2008-10. The duo helped the Saints win Super Bowl XLIV.

The Largo, Md. native was originally selected by the Saints in the third round (66th overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft out of Kent State. Playing in 45 games for the Golden Flashes from 2003-06, Young totaled 198 tackles (129 solo), nine interceptions, 21 passes defensed, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
