The Raiders have signed first-round draft pick LB Khalil Mack, General Manager Reggie McKenzie announced Thursday.

Mack is the first of the team’s eight draft picks from the 2014 NFL Draft to sign his rookie contract.

Mack was selected fifth overall by the Raiders in last week’s draft. He played four seasons at the University of Buffalo, playing and starting in 48 games. Mack garnered first-team All-Mid-American Conference honors in his three final seasons and was an All-American selection of the final two. The 6-foot-3, 252-pounder set the NCAA record by forcing 16 fumbles throughout his career, surpassing the previous record of 14. In 48 contests, his career totals include 327 tackles (186 solo), 28.5 sacks, 16 forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, four interceptions and 21 passes defensed.

The Fort Pierce, Fla. native was named the MAC Defensive Player of the Year as a senior, as well as the Jack Lambert Award Winner, given to the nation’s top linebacker by the Touchdown Club of Columbus. He finished second in voting for the Butkus Award. Mack set career highs with 100 tackles (56 solo), 10.5 sacks and three interceptions, while adding five forced fumbles and seven passes defensed. He helped Buffalo earn a bid to the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.
