Raiders vs Texans Through the Decades

Posted Jul 23, 2013

Although the Raiders history with the Houston Texans doesn't span multiple decades yet, these two teams have been meeting regularly since the Texans joined the NFL in 2002.

The Silver and Black will be hitting the road to Houston for a late-season matchup with the Texans on November 17. The Raiders are 2-5 against the Texans since Houston’s inception in 2002, and 1-2 at Reliant Stadium.

The Texans won the first three match-ups in the series – 2004, 2006 and 2007.

The Oakland Raiders’ first win in the series against the Houston Texans came in 2008. The Raiders topped the Texans 27-16 at O.co Coliseum in Oakland.

The Texans won the next two – one in Houston and one in Oakland (2009, 2010).

The last time the Raiders played at Reliant Stadium in Houston, they won a very emotional game 25-20 following the death of the late Raiders owner, Al Davis, the previous day. The October 9, 2011 game was the first without Mr. Davis since 1963 when Mr. Davis hired as head coach and general manager of the team.

On the final play of the game, Texans QB Matt Schaub scrambled to his left after finding the Raiders secondary covering all his receivers, but after running close to the left sideline, he threw a pass right into the hands of FS Michael Huff, who intercepted the pass in the end zone that ended the game. It was later determined the Raiders only had 10 men on the field on defense for the final play.

The emotional game in 2011 gave the Raiders-Texans series a special meaning. This series, although very young, continues to be hotly contested. The 2013 match-up should be no exception.
