CAREER: A speedy and gritty player with a knack for being around the football, has proved to be a reliable cornerback and special-teams contributor in his seven NFL seasons. Originally a rookie free agent signing by San Francisco in 2003, starred collegiately at Texas Tech… After being released by the 49ers in 2005, believed his NFL career was over.
2011: vs. NYJ (12/18): Recovered a fumble of Jets QB Mark Sanchez forced by teammate Mike Patterson; turnover led to an Eagles TD to give the team a 28-0 lead early in the second quarter
2010: Finished second on the team with 10 pass deflections… at SF (10/10): Started in place of an injured Asante Samuel (concussion) and recovered a fumble of Frank Gore in the first quarter; turnover led to a field goal… vs. GB (9/12): Picked off QB Aaron Rodgers in the first quarter, his second consecutive season-opener with an interception
2009: Amassed 13 special-teams tackles in 12 games… at Dal. (1/3): Picked off Tony Romo in first quarter… at NYG (12/13): Combined with Victor Abiamiri on a sack of QB Eli Manning and later recovered a fumble in the fourth quarter, sealing the victory…at Car. (9/13): Notched an interception of Panthers QB Matt Moore
2008: vs. Dal. (12/28): Recovered a fumble forced by Brian Dawkins and raced 96 yards for a TD in a playoff-clinching win; tied for the second-longest fumble return in Eagles history (Joe Lavendar in 1974, behind Mike Patterson’s 98-yard return in 2006)…Touchdown was the first of his career… vs. Ari. (11/27): Started in place of an injured Asante Samuel and recorded his first-career INT in a win… at Cin. (11/16): Notched a sack in the first quarter.
2007: Played in 16 games (four starts) for the Eagles as a reserve cornerback and finished with a career high in tackles (45)… at NYJ (10/14): Registered a sack of Chad Pennington.
2006: Played in 16 games (one start) for the Eagles as a reserve cornerback and finished with career highs in tackles (34) and passes knocked down (12)…Also ranked fifth on the team in special-teams production points (139)…vs. Atl. (12/31): Played the majority of the game after the starters were pulled midway through the first qtr., and recorded five tackles and four passes knocked down… vs. GB (10/2): Made his first start as an Eagle, and registered six tackles and three passes broken up… at SF (9/24): Contributed six tackles, three PBUs and two hurries as the team’s nickel CB… vs. NYG (9/17): Played the majority of the game at RCB for an injured Rod Hood, and posted a career-high seven tackles… with the World Bowl champion Frankfurt Galaxy in the NFL Europe League, recorded 15 tackles and seven passes defensed.
2005: Waived by the 49ers at the end of training camp, was out of football in 2005.
2004: With San Francisco, saw field for the first time…Posted 20 tackles and a sack in 13 games (three starts) for the 49ers… vs. Buf. (12/26): Brought down QB Drew Bledsoe for his first career sack.
2003: Spent the season on the 49ers’ practice squad after signing with the team as a rookie free agent.
COLLEGE: Finished his two-year career at Texas Tech with 128 tackles, four INTs, 44 PBUs and a sack…Led the league as a senior with 27 passes defensed, earning third-team All-Big 12 honors…Transferred to Texas Tech from El Camino Junior College, where he tallied 30 tackles, three INTs and one TD
PERSONAL: First name is pronounced ho-SELL-ee-oh…Credits Deion Sanders for inspiring him to start playing football in eighth grade…His parents, John and Yolanda, met while they were students at Howard University. Yolanda had moved to Washington, D.C., from Panama to go to college, while John had moved there from Alabama…John eventually earned his Ph.D. in music and became a high school teacher, but he was forced to retire abruptly when he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, around the time Joselio was born; he eventually passed away in 2000 due to complications from the disease…Earned his degree in human development and family studies…Loves basketball and enjoys going to random basketball courts to play pick-up games…Played football at St. Bernard (Calif.) High School, where he led his team to the state finals as a senior…Has four brothers: Johnny, Julio, Jacinto and Javier; Jacinto played RB at El Camino Junior College, while Javier played RB at the University of New Mexico, where he was a teammate of Eagles WR Hank Baskett…Joselio and Javier squared off once in college with Joselio’s Red Raiders winning the game.
