ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have signed free agent K Daniel Carlson and elevated WR Marcell Ateman and G/T Denver Kirkland to the active roster from the practice squad, the club announced Tuesday.
Carlson, a 6-foot-5, 213-pound kicker out of Auburn, was originally selected in the fifth round (167th overall) of this year's NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings. Carlson was a three-time All-American honoree by the Walter Camp Football Foundation and was the SEC's Special Teams Player of the Year as both a junior and senior, while also garnering second-team All-American honors by the Associated Press (2016-17). He ended his career in college as the Tiger's and SEC's record holder for points scored (480), career field goals made (92) and consecutive PATs made (198).
Ateman was selected 228th overall by the Raiders in this year's draft and saw action in all four of the team's preseason contests.. The 6-foot-4, 216-pound receiver played four seasons at Oklahoma State, appearing in 51 games with 29 starts and totaling 146 receptions for 2,466 yards (16.9 avg.) with 13 touchdowns.
Kirkland, a 6-foot-4, 335-pound versatile lineman is now in his third year with the club after being signed as an undrafted free agent out of Arkansas in 2016. Over his tenure with the Raiders, Kirkland has appeared in six contest and made four starts for the club.
In corresponding moves, the Raiders have waived K Matt McCrane and have waived S Obi Melifonwu from the Reserve/Injured List.
The Raiders have also signed RB James Butler to the club's practice squad.
