Snap Counts: Week 14 vs. Steelers

A wild afternoon in Oakland ended in dramatic fashion for the Silver and Black Sunday afternoon as Chris Boswell slipped on a would-be, game-tying field goal attempt as time expired.

As a result of the play, the Raiders beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 24-21, and earned their third win of 2018 in just about as a dramatic of way as possible.

Derek Carr was masterful, as he led yet another fourth-quarter comeback, and the Raiders defense put together enough stops to escape Week 14 with a thrilling win in tow.

The players are enjoying a well-deserved off day before they return to work later this week and begin preparing to hit the road for Sundays' game against the Cincinnati Bengals, but before our focus shifts ahead to Week 15, let's review the playtime percentages from the win over the Steelers, and see what the numbers tell us.

Offense

All the tight ends eat – Sunday was a good day to be a tight end for the Oakland Raiders, as the trio of Jared Cook, Derek Carrier and Lee Smith all contributed in a huge way. Cook played 57 snaps (85%), and led the way with seven catches for 116 yards, while Smith played 14 (21%), and Carrier played 13 (19%). In total, the athletic trio totaled 10 catches for 148 yards and two touchdowns; not a bad day at the office for the big guys.

Carr flashes brilliance – Derek Carr's performance Sunday afternoon was the type of performance we've grown accustomed to seeing from No. 4. Carr played all 67 offensive snaps, and completed 25 of 34 passes for 322 yards and two touchdowns. Oh, and since DC didn't throw a pick – again – he now owns the franchise record for games without an interception (8). Plain and simple, the Raiders starting quarterback was exceptional when he needed to be, and his play down the stretch is a big reason why the Raiders are enjoying a Victory Monday today.

Roberts contributes in a big way – While Jared Cook may have led the team in receiving yards, Seth Roberts was the man responsible for the play before the play. With just under two minutes left in the fourth quarter, Carr found Roberts on a gorgeous 39-yard pass that ultimately set up the game-winning score. In total, Roberts played 52 snaps (78%), finishing his Week 14 outing with five catches for 76 yards.

Defense

Whitehead paces the defense – Stop me if you've heard this one before; Tahir Whitehead led the Raiders in tackling Sunday afternoon. Once again, the veteran linebacker played every defensive snap – 60 in this case – and totaled a team-high 10 tackles, two passes defensed, and one interception.

Conley locks it down – One of the best things we've seen over the past, few weeks has been the improved play of second-year cornerback Gareon Conley, and his outing on Sunday was yet another tally in that column. All told, Conley played every defensive snap except one (98%), and finished his day with four tackles, and two passes defensed.

Big Jelly gets back on the stat sheet – Justin Ellis may have only played 13 snaps (22%) in Sunday's win – let's not forget that the big man is still working his way back into football shape – but he certainly made his impact felt. All said and done, Ellis totaled one tackle, and one tackle for loss in the matchup against the Steelers.
