Brennan Carroll enters his first season with the Raiders as the run game coordinator/offensive line coach, bringing 22 years of coaching experience to the post.
Carroll most recently served as the offensive coordinator/offensive line coach with University of Washington in 2024. In his lone season with the Huskies, Carroll led an offense that ranked fifth in the Big Ten in passing yards per game (261.7) and sixth in total yards per game (390.5). He also helped mentor RB Jonah Coleman as he earned third team All-Big Ten honors after rushing for a career-high 1,053 yards with 10 touchdowns. Coleman's 81.0 rushing yards per game ranked sixth-best in the conference.
Prior to his time at Washington, Carroll held the same title with the University of Arizona for two seasons (2021-23). In 2023, Carroll's offense finished eighth in the nation in passing yards per game (308.3), sixth in total passing touchdowns (36) and 20th in total yards per game (448). Additionally, the Wildcats offense ranked in the top 10 in the nation in third down conversion percentage (49.1 – sixth), completion percentage (71.6 – sixth), and saw LT Jordan Morgan selected in the first round (25th overall) in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Carroll tutored QB Noah Fifita as he won the Pac-12 Freshman Offensive Player of the Year award after finishing fourth in the FBS with a 73.6 completion percentage, best among freshmen QB nationally, and his 23 pass touchdowns tied for the most of any FBS freshman. He also saw WR Tetairoa McMillan earn All-Pac-12 second team honors after finishing fifth in the nation in receiving yards (1,402), while WR Jacob Cowing tied for the sixth-most touchdown receptions (13) in the FBS.
In 2022, Carroll orchestrated an offense that finished ranked sixth in the country in passing yards per game (318.4). Under his guidance, QB Jayden de Laura threw for 3,685 yards and 25 touchdowns, which ranked sixth and third respectively in program history for a season. He also saw WR Dorian Singer post a breakout year after recording career-highs with 66 receptions, 1,105 yards and six touchdowns. Cowing finished with 1,034 yards (4th in Pac-12) on 85 receptions (1st in Pac-12), marking the first wide receiver duo in program history to each record 1,000-plus yards in a single season. Carroll's offense saw a 76-place improvement in scoring from the previous season, going from 124th to 48th nationally.
In his first season at Arizona, Carroll helped guide WR Stanley Berryhill III and OL Josh McCauley to All-Pac-12 honorable mention honors. Berryhill recorded a team-leading 83 receptions and 744 yards, while McCauley started every game at center and earned the highest Pro Football Focus rating among Arizona's offensive linemen.
Carroll entered the NFL coaching ranks with the Seattle Seahawks, working alongside his father and current Raiders head coach, Pete Carroll, as the run game coordinator/offensive line from 2015-20.
The Seahawks' offense was among the NFL's best during Carroll's time in Seattle, with the team ranked among the top five in rushing in three different seasons (2015, 2018, 2019) and first in rushing offense in the NFL in 2018. Offensive players on Seattle's roster made 11 trips to the Pro Bowl during Carroll's tenure with the Seahawks, led by QB Russell Wilson's five appearances. The franchise posted an overall record of 61-33 in those six seasons with five playoff appearances.
In 2020, the Seahawks clinched the NFC West with a 12-4 record and finished the season ranked in the top 10 in rushing yards per attempt (6th – 4.8) and points per game (8th –28.7), while scoring the most points in a season in franchise history (459).
In 2019, Seattle earned a spot in the Wild Card round for the second-straight year after the offense ranked fourth in rushing yards per game (137.5). Carroll worked with an offensive line that saw LT Duane Brown and G Mike Iupati be named Pro Bowl alternates as they paved the way for RB Chris Carson to rush for a career-high 1,230 yards, which ranked fifth in the NFL.
In 2018, Seattle earned a Wildcard Playoff berth after leading the league in rushing yards with 2,560 yards. Carroll helped Brown earn second-team All-Pro honors, while Carson become the Seahawks first 1,000-yard rusher since 2014. The Seahawks also became the fourth team in NFL history to have a 1,000-yard rusher and three 300-yard rushers (RB Mike Davis, RB Rashaad Penny and QB Russell Wilson), becoming the first team to do so since the 2001 Steelers.
In 2017, the Seahawks finished with a 9-7 record and ranked 15th in total offense per game (330.4) and 23rd in rushing yards per contest (101.8). Wilson led the team with 586 rushing yards on 95 attempts (6.17 avg.) and three rushing touchdowns.
In 2016, Seattle clinched the NFC West with a 10-5 record and finished ranked 12th in the league in total offense (357.2). Carroll aided a run game that saw RBs Christine Michael and Thomas Rawls combine for nine rushing touchdowns.
In his first season in 2015, Carroll aided the league's third-ranked rushing attack with 141.8 yards per game and fourth-ranked offense (378.6 yards per game).
Prior to the NFL, Carroll spent four seasons serving as the tight ends and wide receivers coach, as well as handling recruiting coordinator duties, for the University of Miami from 2011-2014. The Hurricanes had three recruiting classes ranked in the top 15 nationally during those seasons, and WR Phillip Dorsett was drafted in the first round (29th overall) in the 2015 NFL Draft.
Carroll's coaching career began at USC where he spent the 2002 and 2003 seasons as a graduate assistant before being elevated to the Trojans' tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator for six seasons (2004-09). He coached the 2007 Mackey Award winner Fred Davis, as well as Dominique Byrd, who was selected in the third round of the 2006 NFL Draft. During his time at USC, the Trojans won 91 games, won four Rose Bowls and defeated Oklahoma in the national championship game in the 2005 Orange Bowl.
