Nate Carroll joins the Las Vegas Raiders in 2025 as assistant quarterbacks coach/game management, bringing with him 14 years of coaching experience in the NFL.
Before joining the Raiders, Carroll served as the pass game coordinator with the Carolina Panthers in 2024, overseeing a young passing attack that included three rookies as the only team in the NFL with three players in the top-15 of rookie receiving yards with efforts from WR Xavier Legette (497), WR Jalen Coker (478) and TE Ja'Tavion Sanders (342). Sanders also surpassed Ian Thomas for the most receiving yards (342) by a rookie tight end in Panthers history and finished second among rookie tight ends in the NFL in catches (33) and receiving yards. Under Carroll, QB Bryce Young recorded a career-high 21 total touchdowns after starting in just 12 games.
Carroll spent 13 seasons (2011-23) with the Seattle Seahawks before his stint in Carolina, serving in various roles on both sides of the ball. Over his time in Seattle, Carroll was part of a coaching staff that helped the organization to nine playoff appearances, two NFL Championships and a Super Bowl XLVIII title. Carroll spent the majority of his Seahawks tenure working with wide receivers (2014-21), first as the assistant wide receivers coach from 2014-17, then as the wide receivers coach from 2018-21. Over his eight seasons overseeing receivers, three different players logged 1,000-yard seasons, Doug Baldwin (2015, 2016), Tyler Lockett (2019, 2020, 2021) and DK Metcalf (2020). Lockett joined Steve Largent as the second player in franchise history with three-straight 1,000-yard receiving seasons.
In 2023 as a senior offensive assistant, Carroll was part of an offense that averaged 5.5 yards per play, the 11th best mark in the NFL. The team also ranked fifth in the league in fewest giveaways (17), aided by only losing five fumbles (t-2nd in the NFL). Seattle's receiving core was led by Metcalf, who recorded his second-consecutive 1,000-yard season (1,114) as he became the the third player in NFL history to reach 50 receptions, 900 yards and five touchdowns in each of his first five seasons (A.J. Green, Randy Moss).
In 2020 as the wide receivers coach, Carroll saw WR Tyler Lockett and WR DK Metcalf etch their names in the club's record books after becoming the second pair of 1,000-yard receivers in Seahawks history (Brian Blades and Joey Galloway in 1995). Lockett set a team record with 100 catches and 1,054 yards, the sixth player in club history to register back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons. Metcalf was voted to the Pro Bowl and named to the Associated Press All-Pro Team (second team), after setting a club record for most receiving yards in a season with 1,303. The duo also gave Seattle two receivers with 10-plus touchdowns in a season for the second time in franchise history (Steve Largent and Daryl Turner in 1984).
In 2019, Carroll's unit was led by Lockett and Metcalf - his rookie season. Lockett set a career-high with 1,057 yards and became the eighth player in franchise history to record a 1,000-yard season. Metcalf moved directly in to the starting lineup and recorded the second-most receptions (58) by a rookie in franchise history and his receptions and 900 yards ranked second and third, respectively, in the NFL among rookie wide receivers.
In his first year leading wide receivers in 2018, Lockett led the group in catches (57), yards (965) and touchdowns (10, 6th NFL), while Doug Baldwin was second on the team with 50 catches for 618 yards. When Lockett was targeted, Seattle's QB Russell Wilson was 57 for 70 (81.4%) for 965 yards with 10 touchdowns and zero interceptions, good for a perfect 158.3 passer rating, a feat last accomplished in the 2009 season.
From 2014-17, Carroll served as assistant wide receivers coach, assisting with a unit led by Doug Baldwin, who led the team in catches and receiving yards for four straight seasons (2014-17). Baldwin also notched back-to-back Pro Bowl selections in 2016 and 2017. Under Carroll, Baldwin recorded back-to-back seasons with 1,000+ receiving yards, becoming the fifth player in franchise history to accomplish the feat and just the first 1,000-yard receiver for the Seahawks since 2007 (Bobby Engram).
Carroll moved to a new role in 2013 as an offensive assistant, working alongside wide receivers coach Kippy Brown during Seattle's Super Bowl XLVIII winning season. Seattle's receiving group under Brown and Carroll helped Wilson become the first quarterback in NFL history with a 100-plus passer rating in each of his first two seasons (2012-13).
In his first two seasons (2011-12) on the Seahawks coaching staff as a defensive assistant, Carroll's primary responsibilities included video study of opponents, self-scouting, playbook production and assisting several coaches, including defensive coordinator Gus Bradley.
