John Spytek, who became the sixth General Manager in the history of the Las Vegas Raiders when named to his post by Owner Mark Davis on Jan. 24, 2025, enters his second season with the Silver and Black. Spytek is in his 23rd year in the NFL, joining the Raiders after spending the previous nine seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he served as the Assistant General Manager (2023-24), Vice President of Player Personnel (2021-22) and Director of Player Personnel (2016-20).

Spytek and his personnel staff continued to construct the Raiders roster this past offseason. His second draft at the helm, headlined by No. 1 overall selection QB Fernando Mendoza, yielded 10 total draft picks, including five picks in the top 101 slots of the annual selection meeting. Mendoza, who led Indiana to a National Championship and an undefeated 16-0 record in 2025, became the fifth Heisman Trophy winner to be drafted by the Raiders and just the second player selected first overall in franchise history.

The Raiders' draft was also highlighted by five draft day trades, with four of those transactions coming on the draft's third day, and Las Vegas concluded the proceedings with potential high-level contributors and increased depth and competition throughout the roster.

The Raiders made a splash in the early free agency period earlier in the spring, adding eight unrestricted free agents in the first week of the league year, and helping bolster the roster on offense, defense, and special teams. The Raiders signed C Tyler Linderbaum, widely regarded as the top offensive lineman on the free agent market, while adding WR Jalen Nailor, DE Kwity Paye, and linebackers Nakobe Dean and Quay Walker, who project to impact the middle of the defense immediately.

In his first offseason with the Raiders, Spytek strategically supplemented the roster with key additions through trade, free agency, and the draft. After securing a long-term contract extension with DE Maxx Crosby, Spytek and his staff made 11 selections in the 2025 NFL Draft, marking the most by the Raiders since 2007. Headlining the draft haul in the first round was RB Ashton Jeanty, a dynamic ballcarrier and record-setting Heisman Trophy candidate at Boise State. Spytek also conducted a pair of Day 2 trades, moving back twice in the second round and collecting two additional third-round picks in the process.

In Tampa Bay, Spytek helped draft four players who earned PFWA All-Rookie Team honors (CB Vernon Hargreaves, LB Devin White, T Tristan Wirfs and RB Bucky Irving) and five players who were selected to a combined nine Pro Bowls and three AP All-Pro selections (WR Chris Godwin, DT Vita Vea, White, Wirfs and S Antonie Winfield Jr.). He was also integral in the signings of key free agents C Ryan Jensen, LB Shaq Barrett, DT Ndamukong Suh, QB Tom Brady and QB Baker Mayfield, while helping trade for DE Jason Pierre-Paul and TE Rob Gronkowski. The Buccaneers were the only team in the NFL to have multiple draft picks selected to the All-Rookie Team in consecutive seasons from 2019-20. In 2021, Tampa Bay was able to return all 22 starters from the Super Bowl LV championship team, becoming the first to do so in the salary cap era.

During his time in Tampa Bay, the Buccaneers secured five playoff appearances, six playoff victories, four NFC South division titles and a Super Bowl championship. The team's six playoff wins since 2016 are the seventh-most in the NFL during that span.

Prior to joining the Buccaneers, Spytek spent three seasons with the Denver Broncos, where he worked as a southwest area scout in 2013 and as a national scout from 2014-15. The Broncos' 37 regular season and 42 overall wins were the most in the NFL over that three-year span, culminating in a Super Bowl 50 victory following the 2015 season.

Before joining the Broncos, Spytek spent three seasons (2010-12) as the Cleveland Browns' Director of College Scouting. While with the Browns, Spytek assisted in drafting six players who earned PFW/PFWA All- Rookie Team honors and five players who were selected to a Pro Bowl.

Spytek began his player personnel career working as an intern with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2005, earning a full-time college scouting assistant position in 2006 and spending three years as a college/pro scout from 2007-09. His first job in the NFL was as an operations intern with the Detroit Lions in 2004.

A native of Pewaukee, Wisc., Spytek played linebacker at the University of Michigan from 1999-2002, earning a bachelor's degree in general studies and a master's in sports management.

Spytek and his wife, Kristen, are parents to Jack and Thomas. Together, they co-founded the National CMV Foundation in 2014 to educate families about congenital CMV, a virus that ultimately claimed the life of their 21-month-old daughter, Evelyn, in 2014.
