Kade Rannings enters his second season as an assistant special teams coach with the Raiders, bringing with him 22 years of coaching experience, including six seasons at the NFL level.
In 2024, Rannings helped P AJ Cole finish the season with a league-high and single-season career best 50.8 gross punting average, as well as finishing seventh in the league in net punting average (42.5). The special teams unit finished fifth in the NFL in kickoff return average (29.6) and 15th in punt return average (9.8). Rannings helped RB Ameer Abdullah earn Pro Bowl Alternate honors as a kick returner after returning nine kickoffs for 296 yards (32.9 avg.) and 10 punt returns for 91 yards (9.1 avg.). He also coached WR DJ Turner, who fielded nine punts for 80 yards (8.9 avg.) and eight kickoffs for 184 yards (23.0 avg.),while WR Tre Tucker returned eight punts for 72 yards (9.0 avg.).
Prior to joining the Silver and Black, Rannings served as the running backs coach and special teams coordinator for the Citadel Bulldogs for the 2023 season.
Rannings joined The Citadel after serving as the offensive quality control/quarterbacks coach for the Los Angeles Wildcats of the XFL.
Prior to his time in the XFL, Rannings spent three seasons as a football administrator/special teams quality control with the Green Bay Packers.
He originally entered the NFL coaching ranks with the Cleveland Browns, where he worked as a game charter, helping in scouting and player evaluations. Prior to the NFL, Rannings spent 13 seasons working on the collegiate level, both at the FBS, FCS and Division II levels. He spent the 2013-15 seasons as the tight ends/assistant offensive line coach at Montana, helping the program to a pair of FCS Playoff appearances.
Rannings served as the running backs coach at Colgate from 2008-13. During that time, he helped the Raiders to a pair of appearances in the FCS Playoffs, while coaching numerous All-Americans.
From 2005-06, Rannings spent time as the wide receivers coach at St. Joseph's College and as a defensive assistant at San Diego.
Rannings earned his first coaching job at his alma mater, Oregon State, working as a graduate assistant.
Rannings was also a participant in the NFL's Bill Walsh Minority Internship program. Under the program, Rannings spent time with the Las Vegas Raiders (2022), Green Bay Packers/Buffalo Bills (2017), New York Jets (2016), St. Louis Rams (2015) and Detroit Lions (2012).
PERSONAL: Rannings earned his bachelor's degree in physical education/teacher education from Oregon State in 2005. He and his wife Steph have two children, a son, Bennett, and a daughter, Livi.
