Marcus Peters Suspended For Week 14 Matchup Against Oakland Raiders

A thin secondary got even thinner for the Kansas City Chiefs Wednesday morning when Head Coach Andy Reid announced that he was suspending cornerback Marcus Peters for Sunday's game against the Oakland Raiders.

The one-game suspension of the All-Pro cornerback comes on the heels of him throwing a penalty flag into the stands in the final moments of the Chiefs Week 13 loss to the New York Jets.

"I'm not really going to get into the whole thing there, but I did what I thought was best for the Chiefs, and that's how I try to go about my business," said Reid on a conference call with the Bay Area media shortly after announcing the suspension.

Peters played all 82 defensive snaps in the Chiefs Week 7 loss to the Raiders at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, totaling two tackles, and providing his usual, tight coverage all evening.

Without Peters in the mix, the Chiefs will rely heavily on Terrance Mitchell, as well as the recently-acquired Darrelle Revis.

"I expect the other guys to step up and play, that's kind of how we roll here," Reid explained. "I wouldn't expect anything less from that, that's what we do."

Offensively, the Raiders are set to welcome back wide receiver Michael Crabtree from a one-game suspension of his own, although the status of his running mate Amari Cooper remains up in the air.

Kickoff against the Chiefs is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. PT, and with both teams boasting 6-6 records, Sunday's game will go a long way in determining an eventual AFC West champ.
