Davante Adams talks his career, upcoming season on 'The Rush with Maxx Crosby'

Even in the short span of two seasons, Davante Adams and Maxx Crosby have been through a lot together as teammates.

Adams was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022, having a dynamic debut season with his new franchise. Crosby had a league-leading 22 tackles for loss the same season, but unfortunately the Silver and Black finished 6-11. The following season involved a midseason coaching change and now under new Head Coach Antonio Pierce, Crosby and Adams are feeling a culture shift within the locker room.

"He's the type of dude who's a stand-up dude, not afraid to tell it like it is, and he'll get up there and empower his players too," Adams said of Pierce. "That's the biggest part that I love."

Crosby recently decided to dip his hand into the world of podcasting with his show "The Rush," hosting alongside his former Eastern Michigan teammates. His latest guest on the pod was Adams where they talked about their relationship, respective journeys in football and their outlook on the upcoming 2024 season. The bar has been set even higher for the two competitors, assuming roles as leaders in the locker room and faces of the franchise.

"I don't have any expectations, but I do have a standard that we have to live up to regardless," Adams said. "We set that. We control that with whoever comes through this building, with all the people that are there. One thing I'll say about the Raiders is that the moment I stepped through this building, it was way more competitive than we were in Green Bay. In Green Bay we had great teams and we found a way to win, but when you talk about the competitive nature."

The star receiver is in great position to continue playing up to his standard with the arrival of offensive coordinator Luke Getsy. The former Chicago Bears offensive coordinator was Adams' receivers coach with the Packers from 2016-17.

It was around that time Adams began to come into his own as a player, compiling 1,882 receiving yards, 149 receptions and 22 touchdowns in those two seasons. On the podcast, Adams gave his full endorsement of the offensive coordinator.

"We have a really good system on offense now. It's something I'm very familiar with," said Adams. "It's literally the same verbiage, everything. ... Now it's about coming out and starting fast. We won that first game last year, but just establishing who we are in that first quarter of the year, it obviously starts with a whole lot of other work before that in OTAs and throughout Training Camp."

Adams and The Rush crew also dove into some fun topics, including who among the Raiders would make for the best five in a pickup basketball game and Adams' personal Mount Rushmore of NFL receivers. His top four receivers all-time consist of Calvin Johnson, Terrell Owens and former Raiders Jerry Rice and Randy Moss.
