On this day in 1981, the Silver and Black beat the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl XV.

Quarterback Jim Plunkett

Thirty-seven years ago, after an improbable run that included a mid-season quarterback change, the Oakland Raiders secured their second world championship, defeating the Philadelphia Eagles 27-10 in Super Bowl XV.

After taking over for starting quarterback Dan Pastorini during the team’s fifth game of the year, Jim Plunkett rallied the Silver and Black, not only taking them to the playoffs, but vanquishing the NFC champion Eagles at the Louisiana Superdome, en route to what turned out to be an MVP day for Plunkett.

At game’s end, the eventual two-time champion completed 13 of 21 passes for 261 yards and a trio of touchdowns, boasting an overall quarterback rating of 145.0.

Combined with a stout defensive effort by the Silver and Black, Ron Jaworski and the Eagles couldn’t get rolling, and as a result, the Raiders left New Orleans as Super Bowl champs.
