Practice Recap - October 16

After practice on Thursday, both Raiders coordinators addressed the media for the first time since their match-up with the San Diego Chargers on Sunday.

During their press conferences, both Greg Olson and Jason Tarver reflected back on Sunday's game and also looked forward to what their respective units needed to do to notch a victory for the Raiders against the Arizona Cardinals.

The Week 7 game against Arizona marks the first time that Carson Palmer will square off against the Raiders in O.co Coliseum since he departed for the desert at the end of the 2012 season. Palmer served as the primary quarterback for the Raiders from 2011-12 and helped lead the Silver and Black to an 8-8 record in 2011.

While addressing the media, Coach Tarver spoke about Palmer and what his defense needs to do to shut him down.

"I really like Carson; he's a great person," said Tarver. "He's a good quarterback with a strong arm so we need to make sure we play top-down coverage and we need to make sure we find ways to affect him in the pocket."

Defensive lineman C.J. Wilson, who along with the rest of the Raiders D-line will try to bring down Palmer on Sunday, echoed Tarver's statements.

"He's a tough quarterback and he's very accurate," Wilson said. "He's just as good as [Philip] Rivers was last week, the way he makes the throws that are there and he squeezes them in tight holes and he makes the plays. He's not in the league for no reason. He's a good player, a great player actually."

During his weekly press conference, Coach Olson spoke about Derek Carr and the growing comfort level of his rookie quarterback.

"I think there's more of a comfort level right now with the guys in the huddle and the guys that have been in the huddle," said Olson. "I think our young quarterback, more than anything, as I've said from the get-go, he seems to have gotten more and more comfortable every week in what he's doing and what his responsibilities are."

The Raiders will need Carr to continue his upward trend when they welcome the NFC West-leading Arizona Cardinals to O.co Coliseum for their match-up at 1:25 pm.

The Raiders will hold their final week of practice tomorrow afternoon at their Alameda facility.
