Coach Allen Talks Friday Practice, Jets

Head Coach Dennis Allen fielded questions after the Raiders Friday practice at Cochran Field at Caven Point in Jersey City.

Opening Statement: "The injury report today: David Ausberry was full; he's probable. Chimdi Chekwa did not practice; he's out. 'Sea-Bass,' [Sebastian Janikowski] he was full; he's probable. Taiwan Jones was full; he's probable. Nick Roach was limited in practice; he's questionable. Matt Schaub was full; he's probable. Menelik Watson was full; he's probable. LaMarr Woodley did not practice, and it's not injury related. That's the injury report."

Q: How confident are you in Kaluka Maiava, Miles Burris and Sio Moore if Nick Roach isn't able to go?

Coach Allen: "Very confident, very confident. It's a 'next man up' philosophy around here, and we expect that whoever goes out there and plays the Mike linebacker position for us is going to go out there and play well."

Q: Coming out here to the East Coast early, getting Friday practice in, how do you think it's gone so far?

Coach Allen: "I think it went good. I thought we had a good practice today. Obviously, the travel plans are a little bit different, but I think the guys are focused in and I think the guys are ready to go."

Q: Do you think the weather gives the team a little taste of what they're going to get on Sunday?

Coach Allen: "Yeah, it's a little warm today, a little humid. We have to make sure we do a good job of staying hydrated, but we're not going to let any external factors affect how we go out and play the game."

Q: What are your thoughts on Derek Carr starting his first game as a pro?

Coach Allen: "I'm excited to watch him play. The kid has come out here and worked hard. He's done a great job in his preparation, and I am excited about watching him go out there and play and understand that there are 10 other guys out there playing the game with him, so some other guys are going to have to step up and make plays too."

Q: Is there anything that you can take away from last year's game against the Jets?

Coach Allen: "Sure. You go back and you look at a lot of different things. We watched all the preseason games. We went back and watched a lot of things that they did last year. So, I think we have a good plan, and now we just have to go out there and execute it."
