The Raiders selected Johnson in the 2nd round of the 1973 NFL Draft out of Nebraska. He played in 99 regular season games with 69 starts and grabbed 10 interceptions for 135 yards and recovered eight fumbles, returning one for a touchdown. He was a member of the Raiders 1976 Super Bowl championship team. Johnson was a member of the team in 1980 but did not finish the season due to injury.
