You'd be hard pressed to find an organization that has a richer, storied history than the Raiders.
Whether it's explosive wide receivers like Fred Biletnikoff or Cliff Branch, or defensive behemoths like Howie Long and Khalil Mack, the Silver and Black, in many ways, have become synonymous with on-field excellence.
But hey, let's not forget about the third phase of the game, special teams, either.
Oftentimes the underappreciated group on a football team, the special teams unit is absolutely vital to the success of any squad, and over the years, the Raiders have seen their fair share of special teams studs walk through the doors, so much so that four Raiders were featured on Rick Gosselin's All-Time NFL Special Teams Unit.
Gosselin, who works for the Talk of Fame Sports Network, recently unveiled his best special teamers in league history, and with punter Ray Guy featured as the first-team punter, along with Ted Hendricks, and Albert Lewis, not to mention Shane Lechler getting the nod as the second-team punter, the Raiders are no doubt well represented.
"The only pure punter in the Hall of Fame. Seven Pro Bowls and a member of the NFL's 75th anniversary team," Gosselin wrote of Guy. "Guy became the first punter ever selected with a first-round draft pick and went on to lead the NFL in punting in three of his first five seasons. His leg became a weapon that helped the Raiders win three Super Bowls. One of the most memorable plays in Super Bowl history was a leaping Guy snaring a high, errant snap with one hand against the Redskins in the 1984 game and then launching a 42-yard punt."
Gosselin went on to discuss Hendricks, "a Hall-of-Fame outside linebacker and a member of the NFL's 75th anniversary team. Hendricks was 6-7, 220 pounds and used his length to great advantage on kicking downs. The Mad Stork is credited with blocking an NFL-record 25 kicks, including a staggering seven in one season with the Packers in 1974 – 3 field goals, 3 punts and an extra point."
