Tom Brady hopes his "Smithsonian of sports artifacts" at the Hall of Excellence will inspire the next generation.
Just like many hope his presence as a minority owner of the Raiders will do the same for the team.
Not that Brady is micromanaging anything. Far from it. Especially with Mark Davis still the owner and Pete Carroll and John Spytek in their first years in high-profile roles as coach and general manager, respectively.
With Brady at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas for a media conference last week announcing the launch of the epic sports museum with broadcaster Jim Gray and his wife Frann, I asked Brady how, exactly, he would describe his role in the day-to-day operations with the Raiders.
He did not flinch.
"Well, I'm just a limited partner, so Mark's the boss," Brady told me. "And then Pete does his job and Spy does his job and, I think, we trust them to make the right decisions.
"I'm there as a great sounding board for anything they want to do."
Such as trading for quarterback Geno Smith, signing linebacker Devin White in free agency and drafting running back Ashton Jeanty with the No. 6 overall pick, for example.
Look, Brady's resume as a player speaks for itself, and if you need more proof, his seven Super Bowl rings are on display in the museum. As is his draft card declaring him the 199th selection in the 2000 NFL Draft, and, avert ye eyes, Raider Nation, Bill Belichick's playcall sheet from the fateful Tuck Rule Game in 2002 that essentially launched the Brady era.
It's all part of Brady's lore and, yes, aura, that appeals to even the most ardent of Raiders fans who initially balked at the idea of Brady buying into their favorite franchise.

After all, it was the Tuck Rule Game that ended a potential Raiders Super Bowl run…though Davis recently joked that Brady "did admit that it was a fumble," while acknowledging he also wanted Brady to play for the Raiders when they moved to Las Vegas in 2020.
"Those are important aspects of the situation," Davis laughed at the time. "But we're just really proud to have him as part of this organization. He's a competitor, he's a bright young man, there's just so many pluses for both sides. It's great."
Plus, if the whole idea is to Just Win Baby, then check out this conversation with Lonnie Ali, Muhammad Ali's widow, that Gray shared.
"Tom Brady is the only man on the planet who reminds me of my husband," Lonnie Ali told Gray.
Brady did not get into specifics on what his daily role looks like but was more than happy to describe how his first offseason with the Raiders looked and felt like to him.
"I've loved it," he said. "And, again, just trying to contribute in the ways that I can to help the team be the best they can be, on and off the field. We've got a great group of people. I love Mark. He's done an incredible job getting the team to Vegas, getting the stadium built."
Brady also mentioned fellow new minority owners Michael Meldman, Egon Durban and Tom Wagner as "a great group of guys…that are coming in to be helpful as well" with the Raiders.
"Pete is new this year; he's got a big role to play," Brady added. "And so does John Spytek. And we're trying to do the right things every day. So that's what we're trying to do."
Under Carroll and Spytek, the Raiders are looking to rebound from a 4-13 season and return to the playoffs for the third time since 2002, the second time since 2016, the first time since 2021.
And with Brady settling into his role of "sounding board," there is a different vibe all around.
Small sample size, obviously, but Brady likes what he's seen thus far from the Carroll-Spytek regime.
"They've worked together very well, and there's a lot of decisions that are made," Brady said. "Winning games in September starts with what happens in February, March and April, when no one's really watching. They've been hard at work.
"And our goal is to, you know, win a lot of football games. You've got to work hard at it, and it's all earned and we've got a tough division. There's a lot of good opponents we face. But it's going to be up to the guys and their daily commitment to doing the right things."
