The Oakland Raiders will be without the services of its starting quarterback for at least one week, possibly more.
After leaving Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos early with an apparent back injury, Head Coach Jack Del Rio announced Monday that Carr would miss at least the Silver and Black's Week 5 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens.
"He [Carr] has a transverse process fracture," said Del Rio Monday afternoon. "There's a real good chance he'll miss this week, and these injuries, the timeframe is typically 2-6 [weeks]. I got that information about 10 minutes ago. I thought I'd share it with the local guys here first, so there you are."
Del Rio continued on to say that after an X-ray and MRI on Carr proved inconclusive, a CAT scan was ordered that eventually revealed the fracture.
"I just got off the phone with him; he said he's sorry," Del Rio continued. "He's a great kid, he'll bounce back. I told him the team will take care of business while he's healing, and just get healed up, and when he can come back, he'll come back."
After Carr's afternoon ended, EJ Manuel entered the game, and finished his debut outing as a Raider 11 of 17 for 106 yards and an interception.
"I thought EJ gave us a chance there at the end," Del Rio said. "He did some things really well, and so there's some definite positive, encouraging signs, that we can build on."
While Del Rio did not announce Manuel as the starting quarterback in the interim, with 28 appearances and 17 starts under his belt, he has more NFL experience than second-year signal-caller Connor Cook.
