Kenny Pickett will start at quarterback against the Philadelphia Eagles, Head Coach Pete Carroll announced Friday.
Geno Smith, who suffered a right shoulder and hand injury last Sunday, did not practice this week and has been ruled out.
"Geno won't make it back. He tried," Carroll said. "Couldn't get it done in this amount of time. Have a really good chance to be back next week, so Kenny's going to take the lead."
This is Pickett's first start for the Raiders since they acquired him via trade from the Cleveland Browns. Last Sunday, Pickett came into the game in relief of Smith and went 8-of-11 for 97 yards and a touchdown.
"He's done everything we could ask of him," Carroll said. "He had an excellent week. He's in command of what we're doing, communications are good and all that. Got a little East Coast in him, so that won't hurt. We'll support him in every way that we can to have a good game.
Pickett spent last season with the Eagles, where he played in five regular season games (one start) and two postseason contests as part of the Eagles' Super Bowl LIX run.
