Raiders Fall to Dolphins 35-13

Raiders QB Carson Palmer completed 24 of 48 passes for 373 yards and a TD, but the Silver and Black couldn't stop Miami's running game and fell on the road 35-13 at Sun Life Stadium in Miami.

The Raiders won the opening coin toss and deferred their choice to the second half. K Sebastian Janikowski's opening kickoff flew out of the end zone for a touchback. The Dolphins started at their own 20 with rookie Ryan Tannehill at quarterback. Tannehill finished the 80-yard drive with a 2-yard touchdown run. The extra point was good and Miami led 7-0 with 9:19 left in the first quarter.

CB Coye Francies returned the ensuing kickoff to the Oakland 16 where the Raiders took the field with Carson Palmer at quarterback. After picking up one first down, the Raiders were forced to punt. WR Davone Bess called for and made a fair catch at the Miami 22.

Miami drove into Oakland territory before the Raiders defense forced a 56-yard field goal attempt. The Dolphins elected to pooch punt instead and the kick was down inside the Raiders 10.

Palmer connected with RB Mike Goodson for a 64-yard catch a run on a screen pass for a touchdown to cap a 92-yard drive. The extra point was good and the game was tied at 7-7 with 11 seconds left in the 1st quarter.

The ensuing kickoff went for a touchback and Miami started at their own 20. The Dolphins picked up a couple of first downs before the Raiders defense forced a punt. DB Phillip Adams called for and made a fair catch inside the Raiders 10.  

The Dolphins held the Raiders to a three-and-out and Lechler came on to punt. Marcus Thigpen returned the 60-yard punt 18 yards to the Miami 43. The Raiders held Miami to a three-and-out thanks in part to a DE Matt Shaughnessy sack. Adams was dropped at the Oakland 14 after a 56-yard punt.

After picking up one first down, the Raiders were forced to punt. Thigpen returned Lechler's punt to the Miami 27. The Raiders held the Dolphins to a three-and-out. Adams nice return was wiped out by a holding penalty and the Raiders started at their own 18.

The Raiders drive stalled near midfield and Lechler came on to punt. Bess was hammered on the punt return at the Miami 25. The Raiders held the Dolphins to another three-and-out. Adams fielded the bouncing punt and returned it to the Oakland 12.  

The Raiders capped a 12-play, 81-yard drive with a 25-yard field goal by K Sebastian Janikowski. The Raiders led the Dolphins 10-7 with 46 seconds remaining in the half. The Dolphins elected to run out the clock to end the first half.

Francies fielded the opening kickoff of the second half in the end zone and took a knee for a touchback. The Dolphins held the Raiders to a three-and-out and Lechler came on to punt. Thigpen returned the punt to the 32. The Raiders returned the favor with a three-and-out of their own. Adams fielded the punt at the 2 and returned it out to the 26. A holding penalty wiped out the return and the Raiders started at their own 1.

Miami held the Raiders to a three and out. Thigpen returned the punt 22 yards to the Oakland 44. The Dolphins took advantage and scored on a 23-yard TD run. The extra point was good and Miami took a 14-10 lead with 7:57 left in the 3rd quarter.

The ensuing kickoff sailed out of the end zone for a touchback and the Raiders took over at their own 20. The Raiders drive stalled at the Miami 45 and Lechler came on to punt. The punt rolled into the end zone for a touchback and Miami took over at the 20.

A few plays later, Bush got loose down the sideline for a 65-yard TD run. The extra point gave Miami a 21-10 lead with 3:52 left in the 3rd quarter.

The kickoff sailed out of the end zone and the Raiders started at the 20. The Raiders drive stalled near midfield and Lechler came on to punt. Bess called for and made a fair catch at the Miami 18.

The Raiders held the Dolphins to a three-and-out. Adams returned the punt 45 yards to the Miami 25. The Dolphins forced the Raiders to settle for a field goal attempt. The 27-yard field goal cut the Dolphins lead to 21-13 with 14:50 left in the 4th quarter.

Janikowski's ensuing kickoff sailed out of the back of the end zone for a touchback. Tannehill connected with TE Anthony Fasano for a short touchdown. The extra point was good and Miami led 28-13 with 11:45 left in the game.

Goodson returned the ensuing kickoff to the Oakland 30. The Raiders went three-and-out and Lechler came on to punt. Thigpen returned the punt to the 24. Rookie RB Lamar Miller capped the drive with a 15-yard touchdown run. The extra point gave Miami a 35-13 lead with 5:06 left to play.

Goodson returned the ensuing kickoff to the Oakland 17. The Raiders next possession ended with an interception. Miami ran out the clock and preserved the win.

The Raiders fall to 0-2 and return home to face the Pittsburgh Steelers at O.co Coliseum in Oakland next Sunday.
