Tributes to Carol Davis, the First Lady of Raider Nation, and George Atkinson, the heart of the Soul Patrol secondary, filled Allegiant Stadium on Sunday as part of the Raiders' game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Davis, the mother of Raiders Owner Mark Davis and wife of Hall of Famer Al Davis who passed away Oct. 24 at the age of 93, was honored with a pregame homage while Atkinson, who died Oct. 27 at 78, received an in-game accolade.
With photos of her being shown on the stadium's big screens, the following was read: "Mrs. Davis was a cornerstone of the Raiders for seven decades and was there every step of the way – from dominance in three Super Bowl victories to improbable triumphs. As the matriarch of the Silver and Black and friend to all who knew and loved her, Carol's indomitable spirit and compassion will never be forgotten. If Al Davis was the heart of the Raiders, Carol was the soul."
A moment of "silent reflection" was then held for Mrs. Davis, who was the first person to light the Al Davis Memorial Torch at Allegiant Stadium in 2020 and whose photo of the event was on the cover of Sunday's gameday magazine.
A 90-second video feature highlighting Atkinson's life with the Raiders played in the stadium during a break in the first quarter.
"At 6-feet, 180 pounds, Atkinson may have been the smallest strong safety in the league, but he still brought tons of force to the field," the feature said. "His physical style of play helped define an era of football. George's contributions as a friend and mentor to the Raiders continued long after his playing career. Atkinson was a fierce competitor on the gridiron … but off the field, his charisma and compassion endeared George to everyone who knew him.
"A loving father and a lifelong Raider, No. 43's genuine personality, wonderful sense of humor and big smile will be missed by everyone who knew him."
Atkinson's No. 43 was added to the stadium wall under the south end zone's video boards. And while pins with "43" and the initials "CD," for Carol Davis, were passed out, the Raiders added a decal with "CD" on the back of their helmets, next to the "AL" stickers.
Also, the Al Davis Memorial Torch, lit by members of UNLV's 1990 national championship men's basketball team, including longtime Raiders fan Stacey Augmon and Final Four MVP Anderson Hunt, was done so in honor of both Davis and Atkinson.
