The next preseason meeting occurred in 1997, when the Raiders beat the Saints at home 18-16. The Raiders won at home again in 2005 by a score of 13-6. The following two games however in 2009 and 2011, both taking place in Oakland, were won by the Saints.

Regular Season: The Regular season, too, has tipped in favor of New Orleans during the 1990s and 2000s. The Saints defeated the Raiders in New Orleans 27-0 in 1991, yet were beaten by the Raiders in Los Angeles 24-19 in 1994. In 1997 and 2000 the series was split, however since then the Saints have won three straight (2004, 2008, and 2012).

Head Coach Dennis Allen was the assistant defensive line coach for New Orleans from 2006-2007 and the secondary coach from 2008-10. He faced his former team for the first time as a head coach during the 2012 regular season. CB Tracy Porter and safety Usama Young played under Coach Allen with the Saints.
