100 Days of 100 Jersey Numbers - 36

For a total of 100 days, we'll take a look at the men who have played for the Raiders jersey number by jersey number. This series will highlight some of the greatest players in NFL history. In some cases, the player and jersey number are synonymous. In other cases, the jersey number represents sustained greatness at a particular position. Some players are superstitious about their jersey number. Whatever the case may be, jersey numbers are an important part of the fabric of professional football.

Twelve players have worn jersey No. 36 in Raiders history. From the team's first true workhorse running back to a game-saving safety, several playmakers have sported this number.

Clem Daniels is the 3rd leading rusher in Raiders history.

Clem Daniels – RB – 1961-67

Daniels joined the Raiders after a year with the Dallas Texans (Kansas City Chiefs) and proceeded to play in 87 regular season games for Oakland. He gained 5,103 yards on 1,133 carries with 30 TDs. He caught 201 passes for 3,291 yards and 24 TDs, and returned 5 punts for 34 yards and 38 kickoffs for 838 yards. Daniels is the 3rd leading rusher in team history. He finished his career with one season with the 49ers.

Lloyd Edwards – TE – 1969

The Raiders selected Edwards in the 3rd round of the 1969 AFL/NFL Draft. He saw action in 14 games for the Raiders.

Bob Hudson – RB – 1973-74

Hudson joined the Raiders after a year with the Green Bay Packers. He played in 28 games and returned 14 kickoffs for 350 yards. He carried the ball 5 times for 15 yards and caught 1 pass for 9 yards.

Manfred Moore – RB – 1976

After playing for San Francisco and Tampa Bay, Moore played in one game for the Raiders, a 24-0 win over the San Diego Chargers, in the 1976 season finale. He returned one kickoff for 28 yards and 6 punts for 78 yards. He finished his career with one season with Minnesota.

Mike Davis – S – 1978-85

The Raiders selected Davis in the 2nd round of the 1977 NFL Draft out of Colorado. Davis played in 107 regular season games with 83 starts and recorded 11 interceptions and 180 return yards. He was a key member of the Raiders Super Bowl XV and Super Bowl XVIII championship squads. He is best remembered for his game-saving interception against the Cleveland Browns in the 1980 AFC playoffs. He finished his career with one season in San Diego.

Greg Hill – DB – 1987

Hill played in 2 games with 2 starts for the Raiders in 1987. He spent time with the Houston Oilers and Kansas City Chiefs.

Terry McDaniel – CB – 1988-97

The Raiders selected McDaniel in the 1st round of the 1988 NFL Draft out of Tennessee. He played in 143 games with 137 starts and intercepted 34 passes for 624 yards and 5 TDs. His 34 interceptions rank 3rd all-time in Raiders history. He finished his career with one season in Seattle.

Derrick Gibson – SS – 2001-06

The Raiders selected Gibson in the 1st round of the 2001 NFL Draft out of Florida State. He switched to 36 after his rookie season when the Raiders acquired Rod Woodson. Gibson played in 69 games with 32 starts and intercepted 3 passes for 25 yards. He forced one fumble and recovered two fumbles.

Justin Griffith – FB – 2007-08

Griffith joined the Raiders after four years with the Atlanta Falcons. He played in 23 games with 14 starts for the Raiders and caught 35 passes for 250 yards and 2 TDs, and gained 29 yards on 9 carries. He played one season for the Seahawks and is now a member of the Raiders coaching staff.

Ron Parker – DB – 2011

Parker played in three games for the Raiders. He spent time with the Seahawks and Panthers and is now with Kansas City.

Shawntae Spencer – CB – 2012

Spencer joined the Raiders after eight years with the 49ers. He played in 2 games with 2 starts before his season was cut short due to a foot injury.  

Ras-I Dowling - DB - 2014

The Raiders signed Dowling to the active roster late in 2014. He saw action in 3 games and recorded 1 tackle.
