Colts Hold Off Raiders 21-17

The Indianapolis Colts defeated the Oakland Raiders 21-17 in a thriller at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. QB Terrelle Pryor accounted for over 300 yards of total offense for the Raiders but it wasn't enough.

The Colts won the opening coin toss and elected to defer their choice to the second half. P Pat McAfee's opening kickoff was fielded in the end zone for a touchback. Terrelle Pryor started at quarterback. The Raiders promising opening drive ended when Pryor's deep pass for WR Rod Streater was intercepted in the end zone by Greg Toler. After the return and a penalty, the Colts started at their 11.

QB Andrew Luck engineered a 10-play, 89-yard scoring drive, which he capped with a 12-yard TD pass to WR Reggie Wayne. The Vinatieri PAT was good and the Colts took a 7-0 lead with 2:47 left in the first quarter.

Ford returned the ensuing kickoff 27 yards to the Oakland 18. The Raiders moved out to their own 49 before the drive stalled. P Marquette King came on to punt. TY Hilton returned the King's first professional punt to the Colts 31.  Luck capped an 8-play, 69-yard drive with a 20-yard TD pass to TE Dwayne Allen. The PAT was good and the Colts led 14-0 with 10:47 left in the 2nd quarter.Ford returned the ensuing kickoff to the Oakland 15. RB Darren McFadden capped an 11-play, 85-yard drive with a 1-yard TD plunge. K Sebastian Janikowski's extra point was good and cut the Colts lead to 14-7 with 4:53 left in the 2nd quarter.

Janikowski's ensuing kickoff went for a touchback and the Colts started at their own 20. The Raiders drive stalled and King's 53-yard punt went into the end zone a touchback.

The Raiders held the Colts to a three-and-out thanks in part to a DE Lamarr Houston sack on 2nd down. Adams returned McAfee's punt to the Oakland 46. Rookie WR Brice Butler's set up a Janikowski field goal attempt, which was wide left. The Colts took a 14-7 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Janikowski's kickoff went for a touchback and the Colts started at the 20. The Raiders would eventually force a punt and they took over at the 15 after a fair catch. Janikowski capped the drive with a 38-yard field goal and cut the Colts lead to 14-10 with 5:42 left in the 3rd quarter.

The Raiders got the ball back when Luck was sacked by DE Jason Hunter at the Colts 44 on 4th and 1. Pryor capped an 11-play, 44-yard drive with a 5-yard TD pass to WR Denarius Moore. The extra point was good and the Raiders led 17-14 with 11:09 in the 4th quarter.

Luck capped an 11, 80-yard drive with a 19-yard TD scramble. The extra point was good and the Colts grabbed a 21-17 lead with 5:20 to play.

The ensuing kickoff went for a touchback and the Raiders started at the 20. The Raiders drove deep into Colts territory but Antoine Bethea picked off a Pryor pass on 3rd and goal and the Colts took over at the 8.

The Raiders fall to 0-1 on the season and return to Oakland to face the Jacksonville Jaguars in the Silver and Black's home opener.
