Practice Recap - November 5

The Raiders officially began their on-field preparation for their Week 10 matchup with Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos on Wednesday afternoon.

David Ausberry, TJ Carrie, Chimdi Chekwa, Gabe Jackson and Carlos Rogers did not practice, but after some time away nursing injuries, both Vincent Brown and Keith McGill were back to work.

Following practice, Derek Carr gave his weekly address to the media and spoke on a number of topics, including his increased chemistry with his group of wide receivers.

"You look back at Week One to where we are now, we're light-years ahead of where we were," said Carr. "It's just going to take a little bit of time, and I like where we're at, now it's just ironing out those little details. I love my receivers. Those guys, as we see on the film, they make play after play for me. They're doing a great job and I'm going to keep throwing it to them."

Interim Head Coach Tony Sparano also spoke following Wednesday's practice and discussed DJ Hayden's continued improvement and, in particular, his game against the Seahawks last Sunday.

"DJ didn't have mental mistakes in the ball game," Coach Sparano said. "Getting enough reps at in his pedal against speed, getting enough reps at specific techniques and how he's going to play this technique man-to-man wise, those are things that he hadn't been able to get. He's getting them now. He's getting better each day out there at practice."

Hayden himself agreed that while he's been steadily making improvements since his return to the active roster, there is always more room for improvement.

"I got my hands on the ball a little bit," he said when talking about his performance in Seattle. "I should have made some of the plays, but there's a lot of stuff I have to clean up technique-wise. I'm just glad I was out there just giving my defense an opportunity to do something."

Hayden and the rest of the Silver and Black return to the practice field tomorrow and, following the afternoon session, both Offensive Coordinator Greg Olson and Defensive Coordinator Jason Tarver will hold their weekly press conferences.
