Vikings Run Through Raiders 30-14

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson ran for 203 yards, including an 80-yard TD in the 4th quarter, as they defeated the Oakland Raiders 30-14 at O.co Coliseum in Oakland.

The Raiders won the opening coin toss and deferred their choice to the second half. The Vikings chose to receive the game's opening kickoff. K Sebastian Janikowski's opening kickoff sailed out of the back of the end zone for a touchback. QB Teddy Bridgewater capped the opening drive with an 11-yard touchdown pass to TE Rhett Ellison. The extra point was good and the Vikings took a 7-0 lead with 10:59 left in the 1st quarter. 

RB Taiwan Jones returned the ensuing kickoff but a penalty backed the Raiders up to the Oakland 15. The Raiders went three and out and P Marquette King came on to punt. King's punt angled out of bounds at the Minnesota 40. The Vikings drive ended thanks to a rookie DE Mario Edwards Jr sack and P Jeff Locke came on. His 40-yard punt bounced into the end zone for a touchback. 

The Raiders drive ended when CB Terrance Newman intercepted a Carr pass. Newman returned it to the Oakland 41. The Raiders held and forced a field goal attempt. The K Blair Walsh 20-yard field goal was good and the Vikings took a 10-0 lead with 1:32 left in the 1st quarter. 

Taiwan Jones returned the ensuing kickoff 37 yards to the Oakland 40.  The Raiders went three and out as the first quarter came to a close. King came on to punt. The 28-yard shank was downed at the Minnesota 32. The Raiders defense stiffened and forced a field goal attempt. The 38-yard kick gave the Vikings a 13-0 lead with 10:33 left in the 2nd quarter. 

Taiwan Jones returned the ensuing kickoff to the Oakland 27. The Vikings were offsides on the kickoff and the Raiders elected to tack the penalty on to the return and started at the 32. Carr capped the drive with a 10-yard touchdown pass to rookie TE Clive Walford. The PAT was good and the Vikings lead was trimmed to 13-7 with 5:54 left in the 1st quarter. 

TE Mycole Pruitt fielded the short kickoff and returned it to the Minnesota 33. The Vikings drive ended thanks DE Khalil Mack's team-leading 5th sack of the year. The Raiders took over at the 26 after a punt and a CB TJ Carrie return. Carr capped the drive with a 34-yard TD pass to WR Andre Holmes in the face of a safety blitz. The PAT was good and the Raiders led 14-13 with 1:52 left in the 2nd quarter. 

WR Cordarrelle Patterson returned the ensuing kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown. The PAT was good and the Vikings reclaimed the lead, 20-14 with 1:39 left in the 2nd quarter.

Taiwan Jones returned the ensuing kickoff to the Oakland 21. The Raiders went three and out and King came on to punt. The Vikings managed a 53-yard field goal attempt, which was no good. The Vikings led 20-14 at the half.

Walsh's opening kickoff of the 3rd quarter went for a touchback and the Raiders started at the 20. The Raiders drove out past the 45 before the Vikings forced a punt. King's punt was downed at the Vikings' 3-yard line. The Vikings challenged claiming a touchback, but the call on the field stood. The Raiders allowed one first down before forcing a punt. Carrie was dropped immediately at the Oakland 27 after fielding the punt.

The Raiders drove out near midfield but the Vikings forced a punt. CB Marcus Sherels returned the punt to the Minnesota 19. The Vikings drove into Raiders territory but had to settle for a 39-yard field goal attempt. The kick was deflected by CB Keith McGill and the Raiders took over at the 29.

The Raiders went three and out and King came on to punt. Sherels returned the punt to the Minnesota 21. The Raiders forced another field goal attempt. Walsh's 34-yard attempt was good and the Vikings led 23-14 with 3:50 left in the game.

Taiwan Jones returned the ensuing kickoff 16 yards to the Oakland 21. The Raiders zipped down the field but Terrance Newman's second interception of the day, this one in the end zone, ended the scoring threat.

RB Adrian Peterson's 80-yard TD run salted the game away. The PAT was good and the Vikings led 30-14 with 1:50 left in the game.

Taiwan Jones returned the ensuing kickoff to the Oakland 17. The Raiders were unable to mount a scoring drive as time expired. The Raiders fall to 4-5 on the season and head to Detroit next week to take on the Lions at Ford Field.
