100 Days of 100 Jersey Numbers - 87

*For a total of 100 days, we'll take a look at the men who have played for the Raiders jersey number by jersey number. This series will highlight some of the greatest players in NFL history. In some cases, the player and jersey number are synonymous. In other cases, the jersey number represents sustained greatness at a particular position. Some players are superstitious about their jersey number. Whatever the case may be, jersey numbers are an important part of the fabric of professional football.

Dave Casper was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2002.

Fifteen players have worn jersey No. 87 in Raiders history, including a Hall of Fame tight end with one of the best nicknames in team history.

Charlie Powell – DE – 1960-61

Powell joined the Raiders in 1960 after playing for the San Francisco 49ers from 1952-57. He played in 28 games for the Raiders.

Bob Mischak – TE/G – 1963

Mischak joined the Raiders in 1963 after a year with the NFL's New York Giants and three years with the AFL's New York Titans (Jets). He wore No. 87 and played tight end in 1963. Mischak moved to guard and wore No. 67 from 1964-65. In all, he played in 35 games and caught two passes for 25 yards.

Rex Mirich – DT – 1964-65

Mirich played for the Raiders from 1964-66, and wore No. 87 from 1964-65 before switching to No. 78 in 1966. Mirich played in a total of 42 games for Oakland.

Raymond Chester – TE – 1970-72

The Raiders selected Chester in the 1st round of the 1970 NFL Draft out of Morgan State. He wore No. 87 from 1970-72 and No. 88 in his second stint with the Raiders from 1978-81. Chester also played for the Colts from 1973-77. In all, Chester played in 103 games with 65 starts for the Raiders and caught 216 passes for 2,891 yards and 37 TDs. He was a member of the Raiders Super Bowl XV championship team.

Dave Casper – TE – 1974-80, 1984

The Raiders selected "The Ghost" in the 2nd round of the 1974 NFL Draft out of Notre Dame. He played in 99 games with 61 starts in two stints with the Raiders wrapped around time with Houston and Minnesota. He caught 255 passes for 3,294 yards and 35 touchdowns and was a key member of the Raiders Super Bowl XI championship team. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2002. Casper was named 1st Team All-Pro four times and selected for four Pro Bowls as a Raider.

Don Hasselbeck – TE – 1983

The Raiders acquired Hasselbeck in 1983 after he played in New England for 6 seasons. He played in 14 games and caught two passes for 17 yards, both touchdowns. He was a member of the Raiders Super Bowl XVIII championship squad and went on to play for Minnesota and the New York Giants.

Wade Lockett – WR – 1987

Lockett played in two games for the Raiders in 1987.

Trey Junkin – TE – 1985-89

Junkin joined the Raiders after playing for Buffalo and Washington. He played in 69 games with two starts and caught 13 passes for 188 yards and five TDs. He served primarily as the long snapper on special teams. He also played for the Raiders in 1996 and wore No. 89. Junkin went on to play for Seattle, Arizona and the New York Giants.

Rich Bartlewski – TE – 1990

Bartlewski played in four games for the Raiders in 1990 after playing college football at Fresno State.

Andrew Glover – TE – 1991-96

The Raiders selected Glover in the 10th round of the 1991 NFL Draft. He played in 93 games with 32 starts and caught 92 passes for 970 yards and 11 TDs.

Jeremy Brigham – TE – 1998-02

Brigham wore No. 87 for the Raiders from 1998-2001. But, he wore No. 49 for Super Bowl XXXVII. Brigham missed the regular season due to injury but returned to the Raiders after the team suffered a rash of injuries at the tight end position late in the campaign. In all, he played in 47 games with seven starts and caught 33 passes for 300 yards and three scores.

Alvis Whitted – WR – 2002-06

Whitted joined the Raiders after four years with Jacksonville. He played in 66 games with 20 starts and caught 57 passes for 815 yards and three TDs.

Ashley Lelie – WR – 2008

Lelie joined the Raiders after four years in Denver, one in Atlanta and one in San Francisco. He played in 13 games with six starts and caught 11 passes for 197 yards and two TDs.

Kevin Boss – TE – 2011

Boss joined the Raiders after four seasons with the Giants. He played in 14 games with 11 starts and caught 28 passes for 368 yards and three touchdowns. He went on to play one season in Kansas City.

Brian Leonhardt - TE - 2014-present

After spending the 2013 season on the practice squad, Leonhardet appeared in 12 games in 2014, catching six passes for 35 yards and one score.
