100 Days of 100 Jersey Numbers - 88

For a total of 100 days, we'll take a look at the men who have played for the Raiders jersey number by jersey number. This series will highlight some of the greatest players in NFL history. In some cases, the player and jersey number are synonymous. In other cases, the jersey number represents sustained greatness at a particular position. Some players are superstitious about their jersey number. Whatever the case may be, jersey numbers are an important part of the fabric of professional football.

Eighteen players have worn No. 88 in Raiders history, including several reliable go-to pass catchers.

Jon Jelacic – DE – 1961-64

Jelacic joined the Raiders after playing for the Giants in 1958. He played in 35 games and chalked up two interceptions. * *

Bill Miller – WR 1964, 1966-68

Miller joined the Raiders after a year with the Dallas Texans (Kansas City Chiefs) and one with Buffalo. He played in 38 games with two starts and caught 49 passes for 742 yards and seven touchdowns.

Dave Kocourek – TE – 1967-68

Kocourek joined the Raiders after six years with the Chargers and one with the Dolphins. He played in 17 games with one start and caught four passes for 50 yards and one TD.

Bob Moore – TE – 1971-75

The Raiders selected Moore in the 5th round of the 1971 of the NFL Draft. He played in 70 games with 46 starts and caught 91 passes for 981 yards and seven touchdowns.

Ted Kwalik – TE – 1977

Kwalik joined the Raiders in 1975 after six years with the 49ers. He wore No. 89 from 1975-76 and switched to No. 88 in 1977. In all, he played in 25 games and caught four passes for 15 yards.

Raymond Chester – TE – 1978-81

The Raiders selected Chester in the 1st round of the 1970 NFL Draft out of Morgan State. He wore No. 87 from 1970-72 and No. 88 in his second stint with the Raiders from 1978-81. Chester also played for the Colts from 1973-77. In all, Chester played in 103 games with 65 starts for the Raiders and caught 216 passes for 2,891 yards and 37 TDs. He was a member of the Raiders Super Bowl XV championship team.

Sam Seale – WR/DB – 1984

Seale wore three different numbers in two stints with the Raiders. He wore No. 88 in 1984, No. 43 from 1985-87 and No. 23 in 1992. In all he played in 61 games with 10 starts for the Raiders and intercepted 5 passes for 40 yards and 1 TD and recovered 2 fumbles. He also returned 23 kickoffs for 482 yards.

Rod Barksdale – WR – 1986

An undrafted free agent out of Arizona, Barksdale played in 16 games with 15 starts and caught 18 passes for 434 yards and two TDs. He went on to play one year with Dallas.

Chris Woods – WR – 1987-88

The Raiders selected Woods in the 1st round of the 1984 NFL Supplemental Draft. He played in 11 games with one start and caught 26 passes for 189 yards. He went on to play in one game for Denver in 1989.

Ethan Horton – TE – 1989-93

After joining the Raiders in 1987, Horton wore No. 23 for one season. He played for the Raiders from 1987-94 after one year with the Chiefs. In all, he played in 84 regular season games with the Raiders with 65 starts. He caught 169 passes for 2,018 yards and 13 TDs.  

Jamie Williams – TE – 1994

Williams joined the Raiders after a year with the St. Louis Cardinals, five years with the Houston Oilers and five with the 49ers. He played in 16 games and caught three passes for 25 yards.

Kerry Cash – TE – 1995

Cash joined the Raiders after four years with the Indianapolis Colts. He played in 16 games with 10 starts and caught 25 passes for 254 yards and two TDs. He went on to play one season with the Chicago Bears.

Olanda Truitt – WR – 1996-97

Truitt joined the Raiders after one season in Minnesota and two in Washington. He played in 24 games and caught seven passes for 91 yards and one TD.

David Dunn – WR – 2000-01

Dunn joined the Raiders after 3 seasons with Cincinnati, the better part of a season with Pittsburgh and one year with Cleveland. He played in 26 games and returned 27 punts for 268 yards and 64 kickoffs for 1,531 yards and one TD. He also caught five passes for 41 yards.

Doug Jolley – TE – 2002-04

The Raiders selected Jolley in the second round of the 2002 NFL Draft out of BYU. He played in 47 games with 25 starts and caught 90 passes for 972 yards and five TDs. He played in Super Bowl XXXVII as a rookie. The Raiders traded Jolley to the Jets and he also played in Tampa Bay for a year.

Zeron Flemister – TE – 2005

Flemister joined the Raiders after four years with the Redskins. He played in 12 games with three starts and returned two kickoffs for 16 yards.

James Adkisson – TE – 2006

A converted wide receiver, Adkisson played in two games and caught one pass for nine yards.

Nick Kasa – TE – 2013-present

The Raiders selected Kasa in the 6th round of the 2013 NFL Draft out of Colorado. He has played in 16 games with one start and caught one pass for 9 yards and a score.
