General Manager Mike Mayock joins Dan Patrick Show, talks Antonio Brown deal, free agency

It's been a busy week for Mike Mayock.

The Oakland Raiders General Manager – along with Head Coach Jon Gruden – spent the weekend ironing out a deal to acquire All-Pro wide receiver Antonio Brown, successfully signing a trio of other players after that deal was finalized as well.

Even though the Silver and Black are still in the midst of free agency, Mayock was a popular man Friday morning, dropping by via phone to spend a few minutes with Dan Patrick, to talk about – among other things – Antonio Brown.

"We were trying to build this team a certain way, but when he [Brown] became available at a different level, it was kind of like, listen, we can change how we practice," explained Mayock. "We can change what we look like on Sunday. We can change how teams have to defend us, and for a [third rounder] and a [fifth rounder] at that point, we were ready to say okay, it looks like free agency has to change for us."

While Antonio Brown was obviously a main topic of conversation, Mayock and Dan Patrick also spoke about the other additions the team made in free agency.

"What I do know is we were 4-12 (in 2018); we added four, really important starting players to our team," Mayock said. "We haven't even talked about Trent Brown who's 25 years old, and we think one of the dominating offensive linemen in this league. Tyrell Williams who played for our division rival Chargers; we're going to pair him with AB. Lamarcus Joyner our nickel/safety, who we think is special."

You can listen to the rest of Mayock's interview – which includes some pretty funny moments where he talks about what he and Coach Gruden talk about – below.
