Staff Sgt. Dave Adkins of the United States Air Force was selected as the GovX Hero of the game for the Raiders Week 7 game against the Arizona Cardinals.
Originally from Ukiah, Staff Sgt. Adkins joined the Air Force in 2005 and is currently stationed at Travis Air Force Base where he serves as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician for the 60th Civil Engineer Squadron.
"My job is called explosive ordnance disposal," said Staff Sgt. Adkins. "Basically, we disarm UXOs [Unexploded Ordnance] and IEDs [Improvised Explosive Device] when you're overseas. It's a pretty exciting job."
Throughout his time in the service, Staff Sgt. Adkins has been stationed all over the United States and served multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Prior to participating in the coin toss, Staff Sgt. Adkins was on the field to watch player introductions and watch the teams warm up.
"This is awesome," he said when speaking pregame. "This is definitely more than I expected and it's really cool."
