Broncos Corral Raiders 37-6

The Denver Broncos defeated the Oakland Raiders 37-6 in 2012 Regular Season Week 4 action at Sports Authority Field at Mile High in Denver. The Broncos snapped a four-game home losing streak to the Raiders.

The Raiders won the opening coin toss and deferred their choice to the second half. K Sebastian Janikowski's opening kickoff flew out of the back of the end zone for a touchback. The Broncos and QB Peyton Manning started at their own 20. Manning directed an 80-yard scoring drive connecting with TE Joel Dreesen on a 22-yard TD pass. K Matt Prater's extra point was good and Denver led 7-0 with 10:32 left in the first quarter.

Prater's ensuing kickoff went for a touchback and the Raiders started at their own 20 with Carson Palmer at quarterback. The Raiders opening drive stalled at the Denver 20. Janikowski came on and drilled a 38-yard field goal and the Broncos lead was cut to 7-3 with 6:47 left in the first quarter.

Janikowski's ensuing kickoff sailed out of the end zone for e touchback and Denver started their second possession at their own 20. Denver's drive stalled at the Raiders 3 and Prater came on for a short field goal attempt. The 21-yard kick was good and gave Denver a 10-3 lead as the first quarter came to a close.

RB Mike Goodson fielded Prater's ensuing kickoff 9 yards deep and took a knee for a touchback and the Raiders started their second possession at their own 20. The Raiders crossed midfield but a penalty and a sack derailed the drive and P Shane Lechler punted the ball back to Denver. RB Taiwan Jones dropped FS Jim Leonhard at the Denver 7.

WR Demaryius Thomas broke free for a long catch and run but SS Tyvon Branch tracked him down and forced a fumble, which DE Lamarr Houston recovered at the Raiders 4.  The Raiders went three and out and Lechler came on to punt. Jones dropped Leonhard at the Denver 33. Denver drove into range for a 54-yard field goal attempt. The Broncos tried a fake but Prater's pass fell incomplete and the Raiders took over at their own 36.

The Raiders drive stalled deep in Denver territory and Janikowski's 24-yard field goal cut the Broncos lead to 10-6 with 22 second left in the 2nd quarter.

CB Omar Bolden returned the bouncing kickoff to the Denver 15. Manning took a knee and a 10-6 lead into the locker room at half time.

Prater's opening kickoff of the second half sailed through the end zone for a touchback and the Raiders started at their own 20. The Raiders went three and out and Lechler came on to punt. Leonhard returned Lechler's punt to the 21.

Manning capped a 9-play, 79-yard drive with a 17-yard TD pass to WR Eric Decker. The extra point was good and Denver led 17-6 with 10:08 left in the 3rd quarter.

The ensuing kickoff went for another touchback and the Raiders offense started at their own 20. The Raiders went three and out and Lechler came on to punt. Lechler's punt was blocked and Denver took over at the Raiders 18. A few plays later, RB Willis McGahee scored on a 2-yard run. The extr appoint was good and Denver led 24-6 with 7:30 left in the 3rd.

Prater's ensuing kickoff went for a touchback and the Raiders took over at the 20. The Raiders went three and out and Lechler came on to punt. Goodson made the tackle on the return and a facemask penalty moved the Broncos to the 37.    

Manning capped the drive with a 14-yard TD pass to RB Lance Ball. The extra point was good and Denver led 31-6 with 3:46 left in the 3rd quarter. Goodson fielded the ensuing kickoff in the end zone and took a knee for a touchback.

The Raiders went three and out and Lechler came on to punt. The punt was downed at the Denver 31. The Raiders held Denver to a 43-yard FG which gave the Broncos a 34-6 lead with 12:56 left in the 4th quarter.

The ensuing kickoff went through the end zone for a touchback. After the Raiders picked up a first down on a nice pass to WR Denarius Moore, Oakland was forced to punt. Leonhard returned Lechler's punt to the Denver 24.

Another Prater field goal gave Denver a 37-6 lead with 3:43 left to play. The ensuing kickoff went through the end zone for a touchback and the Raiders took over at the 20. The Raiders were unable to mount a scoring drive and failed to convert on 4th and 18 in Broncos territory. Denver ran out the clock.

The Raiders fall to 1-3 on the season and head into their bye week. The Raiders will then take to the road for a Week 6 trip t Atlanta to face the Falcons.
