Bucky Brooks' Scouting Report: Week 6 vs. Titans

Who is the Guy?

Cam Ward has already made his mark as the Titans' franchise quarterback. The 2025 No. 1 overall picks has not only given the team an ultra-talented gunslinger to build around, but his "alpha-dawg" personality has helped the Titans rediscover the edginess that synonymous with the rugged brand of football they prefer.

Know His Name

Jeffery Simmons is a disruptive force in the middle of the Titans' defensive front. He commands a double team at all times or the perennial Pro Bowl selectee will single-handedly take over the game. The Raiders must neutralize him to have any chance of moving the ball on the ground or through the air.

Don't Sleep On…

Calvin Ridley is a crafty playmaker on the perimeter with the speed, skill and polish to dominate as a WR1. Although the Titans' passing game hasn't consistently clicked to this point, the former Pro Bowler is a dangerous pass catcher with big play potential.

Under Pressure

Brian Callahan is sitting on the hot seat amid the Titans' struggles since his arrival. The embattled head coach is coaching for his job and the mounting pressure could prompt him to take more risks to spark his squad and steal a win on the road.

Matchup to watch

Titans' defensive front vs. Ashton Jeanty

Given Pete Carroll's run-first mandate, the Titans' ability to contain Jeanty could decide the game. With Simmons and Co. intent of limiting the impact of the Raiders' RB1 with seven and eight-man boxes, Chip Kelly must have a plan to deal with the extra bodies while remaining committed to a ground and pound approach.

Offensive Scheme

The Titans are spinning the wheel trying to find a series of plays that can unlock the talents of the top playmakers. Though Callahan is well versed in the Sean McVay-Kyle Shanahan system, he has put his on spin on the scheme as he puts the offense on the shoulders of a rookie quarterback with outstanding arm talent.

Defensive Scheme

Dennard Wilson is an old school coach with a blitz-heavy approach that will test the quarterback's confidence, courage and composure. He will dial up a host of exotic blitzes and simulated pressures to keep Geno Smith guessing at the line. With a hard-playing group of defenders at his disposal, the Raiders must match the Titans' energy, physicality and aggressiveness to earn a win this week.
