Bucky Brooks' Scouting Report: Week 15 at Eagles

Who is the Guy?

Despite his numbers, Saquon Barkley remains the driving force of the Eagles offense. The All-Pro is coming off his second 100-yard game of the season, exhibiting outstanding vision, burst and explosiveness with the ball in his hands. Most importantly, Barkley has found his rhythm within an offense that desperately needs his contributions to maximize their potential. If No. 26 gets it going, the Eagles are nearly impossible to defend because of the attention he commands and how it opens up the field for others.

Know His Name

A.J. Brown has been the squeaky wheel for the Eagles, demanding more touches as the WR1. The big play specialist has posted three straight 100-yard games with three touchdowns during the span. With the Eagles intent on throwing to Brown early and often, the Raiders must have a plan to neutralize the three-time Pro Bowler on the perimeter.

Don't Sleep On

Jaelan Phillips was acquired around the trade deadline to energize the Eagles' pass rush as a high-motor edge defender. Although the former first-rounder has just one sack since his arrival, he has enabled defensive coordinator Vic Fangio to expand his call sheet to incorporate different sub-packages and creative schemes. With Phillips' athleticism and versatility creating more chaos at the line of scrimmage, the Eagles' defense has wreaked havoc on opponents with minimal blitzing.

Under Pressure

Jalen Hurts is on the hot seat with the offense struggling under his direction. The Super Bowl MVP is coming off a five-turnover performance in primetime that has the fan base calling for the QB2 out of the bullpen. Whether the Eagles make the move or not, the pressure is on Hurts to end the team's three-game skid with a stellar performance that showcases his skills as a dynamic dual-threat.

Matchup to Watch

Maxx Crosby vs. Eagles' offensive line

The loss of Lane Johnson and Fred Johnson to injuries could lead to a big day for the energetic pass rusher. With a backup right tackle tasked with taking on the four-time Pro Bowler, the Eagles will need to send extra blockers in his direction to limit his impact. If the Eagles overcommit to No. 98, there should be plenty of opportunities for others to make plays against one-on-one blocks on the backside.

Offensive Scheme

Despite the Eagles' recent offensive struggles, the unit has the talent to create problems with balance and explosiveness. If the running game gets going with Saquon Barkley and Jalen Hurts leading the way, the aerial attack could produce more big plays with Brown and Devonta Smith taking advantage of one-on-one coverage on the outside. While the offense has not found its rhythm through 13 games, the Eagles' superior talent gives them a chance to explode at any moment.

Defensive Scheme

Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio has a knack for making life miserable for opposing quarterbacks and playcallers. Though he rarely blitzes, the grizzled defensive assistant will test the protection scheme with stunts and games at the line of scrimmage. He combines the creative scheme at the line of scrimmage with an umbrella coverage that takes away the deep ball, while forcing quarterbacks to sort through the sticky "man-match" coverage underneath. With few quarterbacks possessing the patience and discipline to navigate the coverage, the Eagles eventually force turnovers, errant throws or poor decisions.
