Get to know more about the newest piece of the Raiders' special teams unit.

Proven specialist

Since entering the league as a fifth‑round pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2019, Gay has appeared in 102 games and has made 84.3 percent of his field goal, converting 182-of-216 attempts, while adding 232 extra points made. His seven-year career has included stops with the Buccaneers, Los Angeles Rams, Indianapolis Colts, Washington Commanders and San Francisco 49ers.

Gay holds the NFL record for most 50+ yard field goals in one game after converting four against the Baltimore Ravens on September 24, 2023. He is also tied for the Buccaneers' franchise record for longest field goal by a rookie kicker – 58 yards – which is also tied for his career long.

From the pitch to the gridiron

Gay started out in soccer, leading Utah Valley University with seven goals as a freshman in 2014, but chose to pivot to football after the 2016 season. He transferred to University of Utah and joined the football team as a walk-on. Gay went on to win the Lou Groza Award as the country's top kicker in his first season with the Utes after going a perfect 40-of-40 on extra points and making 30-of-34 field goals – a Pac-12 record.

He was named a two-time All-American and was a two-time first-team All-Pac-12 selection. He ranks third all-time at Utah with 56 career field goals and fourth in attempts (65).

Raider ties

New Raiders special teams coordinator Joe DeCamillis coached Gay for two seasons (2021-22) with the Rams, winning Super Bowl LVI in the 2021 season. During that Super Bowl, Gay made one field goal attempt from 41 yards and two extra points that helped secured the Rams' 23-20 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Gay earned a Pro Bowl selection for his 2021 season in which he notched a career-best 94.1 field-goal percentage and missed just one extra point.

"I think from the get, he just kind of commands the attention of players," Gay said in 2021 of DeCamillis. "I mean, his energy is infectious. He gets guys going, gets the guys rolling. Obviously he's done it at the highest level. He's won world championships so he has the respect from that aspect of it. But guys know that he's a serious guy and he can completely command and control. Guys respect him and guys listen."
