Ten games - and only two wins - into this new regime and the Raiders offense has finally found its identity.
But it's not one to be proud of. Far from it.
From playcalling to play execution, the Raiders are a quixotic conundrum when they have the ball. And that's on a good day.
On a bad night, like during Monday's humbling 33-16 loss to the Cowboys in front of a raucous crowd and a national television audience, it's, to be frank, embarrassing. And it was never more evident than on consecutive snaps deep in the Raiders' own territory early in the fourth quarter.
On first-and-10 at their own 2-yard line, right tackle DJ Glaze was flagged for a false start, to push the Raiders back a yard.
On the next snap, Ashton Jeanty was hit in the end zone - a common theme this season, the rookie running back getting popped before he could even reach the line of scrimmage - and was stopped before he could cross the goal line for a Dallas safety.
Yikes.
In the micro sense of things, the offensive line has been an issue all season. And its latest incarnation - left tackle Stone Forsythe, left guard Dylan Parham, center Will Putnam, right guard Jordan Meredith, right tackle Glaze - had no answer for the newest Cowboys interior defensive lineman, Quinnen Williams, who was acquired in a deadline trade. Yes, left tackle Kolton Miller and right guard Jackson Powers-Johnson are both on injured reserve but putting Putnam, in his first career start at center, against Williams just seemed, well, diabolical.
Though not as wild as how the Raiders started on offense. And that's the macro look at things.
Because if you thought it was borderline criminal what happened to Brock Bowers in only getting three targets - none in the second half - in Denver, wait until you hear what went down with Jeanty in the first half against the Cowboys.
The No. 6 pick of the NFL Draft had only four carries in the first half, and he ended up with more targets (eight, with six catches for 27 yards) than rushes (six, for seven yards).
At halftime, NextGen Stats had the Raiders with 31 dropbacks and only three called runs, the 8.8% called run rate the lowest of a game since Week 14 of the 2021 season.
And it was all by design, though not by offensive coordinator Chip Kelly.
"It was a bunch of play-action passes and I really wanted to see us do that," said Raiders coach Pete Carroll. "There's only one person to look at - it's me - because I was influencing the gameplan. I loved the way we were chunking on them and we made big plays. I knew what was happening, Chip and I knew what was going on. We were trying to stay with it to see if we could continue to get the big plays that we were getting and then we just stalled in the red zone, unfortunately.
"I don't really care about pleasing people with our run-pass mix. I'm trying to move the football."
To be fair, the Raiders were moving the ball…until they weren't.
And while the Raiders defense did author a three-and-out to start the game - when starting receivers CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens were benched for a series, incidentally - it offered little to no resistance thereafter as the Cowboys scored 31 points on five straight possessions.
"We went after it," Carroll said. "Because we couldn't stop them, it knocked us kind of out of whack."
As Jeanty said, it was a matter of a lack of execution, adding that has been the case all season.
Bowers, who led the Raiders with seven catches for 72 yards, was excited about how the offense began.
Alas…
"When we got going, we were going pretty good," he said. "But then we get off track - penalties, negative-yard plays. Frustrating. Just frustrating."
Frustrating? Yeah, you could say that's what Maxx Crosby was feeling in the wake of the Raiders surrendering a 5-yard touchdown pass from Dak Prescott to Jake Ferguson on fourth-and-one in the second quarter.
Crosby launched his helmet into a Gatorade cooler before chucking his water bottle into a nearby trash can on the Raiders sideline.
"We aren't good enough right now," Crosby, whose first-quarter strip-sack of Prescott led to the Raiders' first field goal and a short-lived 3-0 lead, said in a somber Raiders locker room.
"I mean, there's a lot of issues. We've got to find ways to get better, find solutions instead of just doing the same thing and expecting a different result."
Because really, that's the definition of insanity, no?
"It takes everybody," Crosby continued. "It's not pointing a finger at anyone; I point at myself first."
After this game, though, there was more to point at than fingers on the Raiders' hands. And maybe that's the Raiders' offensive identity, after all.
