Lions Claw Out 18-13 Win Over Raiders

The Raiders won the opening coin toss and elected to defer their choice to the second half. RB Ameer Abdullah returned K Sebastian Janikowski's opening kickoff 29 yards to the 22. The Lions drove deep into Raiders territory before the Silver and Black forced a field goal attempt. K Matt Prater's 29-yard kick was good and the Lions took a 3-0 lead with 7:54 left in the 1st quarter.

RB Taiwan Jones fielded Prater's ensuing kickoff on the end line for a touchback and the Raiders started at the 20 with Derek Carr at quarterback. The Raiders managed one first down before Detroit forced a punt. WR Golden Tate returned P Marquette King's punt 8 yards to the Detroit 25. 

DE Benson Mayowa brought the Lions next drive to an end with a sack and Prater came on for a 41-yard field goal. The kick was good and the Lions led 6-0 with :31 left in the 1st quarter. 

WR Seth Roberts returned the ensuing kickoff to the Oakland 16. The Raiders drive stalled and Tate returned the 47-yard punt to the Lions 11. The Raiders forced a three and out and P Sam Martin came on. WR Amari Cooper returned the punt 12 yards to the Oakland 41. A 5-yard illegal formation penalty on the Lions was added to the end of the return and the Raiders started at the 46.

The Lions returned the favor with a 3-and-out and King came on to punt. WR Lance Moore called for and made a fair catch at the Lions 15. The Raiders defense forced another 3 and out and the punting unit came on. Cooper returned Martin's punt to the Oakland 26.

The Raiders drove into Lions territory before the drive stalled and King came on to punt. His punt was downed at the Lions 10. The Raiders held the Lions to a field goal attempt. Prater's 51-yard kick gave the Lions a 9-0 lead with :02 left in the 2nd quarter. FB Marcel Reece returned the ensuing kickoff 14 yards as time ran out in the first half.

Martin's kickoff went through the end zone for a touchback. The Raiders marched right down the field and RB Latavius Murray crashed in from a yard out on 3rd and goal at the Lions 1-yard line. Janikowski's PAT was good and the Lions lead was cut to 9-7 wth 10:24 left in the 3rd quarter.

Abdullah returned the ensuing kickoff to the Lions 21. The Raiders yielded one first down by penalty, but a Denico Autry sack brough out the punt team. Martin's punt was downed at the Raiders 43. A penalty on Detroit during the kick moved the ball to the Raiders 48. 

The Raiders were forced to settle for a field goal attempt. Janikowski's 48-yard attempt was good and the Raiders took a 10-9 lead with 3:55 left in the 3rd quarter.

The Raiders held the Lions to a three and out and the punting unit came on. Cooper returned the punt to the Oakland 27. The Raiders drive stalled and Janikowski came on for a field goal attempt. Janikowski's 56-yard field goal gave the Raiders a 13-9 lead with :15 left in the 3rd quarter.

The ensuing kickoff was downed in the end zone for a touchback. The Lions reclaimed the lead as Stafford ran it in from 5 yards out on a quarterback draw. The PAT was good and the Lions led 16-13 with 11:04 left in the 4th quarter.

Roberts returned the ensuing kickoff to the Oakland 21. The Raiders went three and out and King came on to punt. Tate returned the 66-yard punt to the Lions 26. The Raiders forced a three and out and the punting unit came on. A penalty wiped out Cooper's punt return and the Raiders started at the 8.

A holding call in the end zone gave the Lions a safety and an 18-13 lead with 7:31 left. Tate returned King's free kick to the Lions 30. The Raiders never saw the ball again.

The Raiders fall to 4-6 on the season and head to Nashville next week to take on the Tennessee Titans.
