Raiders receive high praise in media grades for 2026 free agent signings

The Las Vegas Raiders haven't wasted any time, or money, during the early stages of the 2026 free agency period.

Tyler Linderbaum seems to be the team's big splash signing, with the three-time Pro Bowl center being considered an huge addition for the Raiders offensive line. The team also signed wide receiver Jalen Nailor and fullback Connor Heyward to help bolster the offensive side of the ball.

On defense, the Silver and Black signed Georgia Bulldogs teammates Nakobe Dean and Quay Walker while also bringing in defensive end Kwity Paye. Additionally, they re-signed defenders Eric Stokes and Malcolm Koonce.

As media outlets publish their grades for each NFL team's free agency moves, here's some of their opinions on what's going on in Las Vegas.

Grade on Tyler Linderbaum signing: A

"The Raiders opened up the checkbook for the three-time Pro Bowl center and will charge him with the task of anchoring the line that's expected to protect No. 1 pick Fernando Mendoza and open lanes for second-year back Ashton Jeanty. Linderbaum is powerful, athletic and durable, having started all 17 games in three of his four seasons in Baltimore. His leadership will prove extremely valuable in coach Klint Kubiak's system and will help ease pressure on a young quarterback."

Grade on signing Jalen Nailor: A

"Nailor was one of my favorite players in this year's class because of his upside. The 2022 sixth-round pick only caught 29 passes for 444 yards last season. But he was playing alongside Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, and he was dealing with subpar quarterback play. But the film showed a player who was open often. He has the traits to be a much more productive player in a bigger role, including inside-outside flexibility, yards-after-the-catch ability, play speed to push vertically and the spatial awareness to find holes against zone coverage. The Raiders are preparing to take Fernando Mendoza with the No. 1 pick. They were lacking at receiver after trading away Jakobi Meyers last season. This is a slam-dunk signing for Las Vegas."

Grade: A-

"Yes, two first-round picks, including No. 14 overall in 2026, from the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for five-time Pro Bowl edge rusher Maxx Crosby made sense. However, the trade being voided because of medical concerns could end up being a blessing in disguise for Las Vegas. Should Crosby look close to the same player after his meniscus injury heals, the Raiders' defense looks pretty stout in their front seven with him plus the free agency acquisitions of edge rusher Kwity Paye and linebackers Quay Walker and Nakobe Dean...

"The trade for Taron Johnson solidified the cornerback position for the most part after Eric Stokes was also retained. If they perform well in the draft, the Raiders could have a strong foundation for years to come."

Grade: A-

"John Spytek would have seen his team grade higher had the Maxx Crosby trade gone through and added two first-round picks, but there's a good chance Crosby still moves for good draft compensation. If not, Dean, Walker, Paye and Johnson give him plenty of help on every part of the defense. Linderbuam is huge for Ashton Jeanty ahead of snapping for Fernando Mendoza."

Grade on Tyler Linderbaum signing: A-

"Last season, Las Vegas allowed a league-worst 64 sacks and struggled to clear running lanes for rookie running back Ashton Jeanty. Linderbaum should help on both fronts as Las Vegas looks to revamp an offensive line around blindside protector Kolton Miller. Las Vegas entered free agency with more than $100 million in salary cap space — the most in the NFL — and should still have more room to make some splashes in free agency. The addition of Linderbaum fills a major hole, giving the Raiders a cornerstone quarterback-center tandem to build around."

Grade: B+

"The Raiders seemingly learned their lesson from last year's disaster. They had a ton of money to spend and have spent it, mostly, on players in their mid-20s with upside: Dean's a great blitzer, Walker can really run, Nailor has flashed, Paye defends the run well, and Johnson is a versatile secondary piece who brings toughness and veteran leadership. Keeping Koonce and Stokes made sense. Even if not all of these second- and third-tier signings hit, enough of them will to provide a better baseline as the build begins."

Grade: B+

"The Raiders pulling Linderbaum out of the Harbaugh universe was one of the bigger surprises of free agency. The addition of Linderbaum is an outsized development for a Vegas offense line that last year ranked 22nd in both run blocking and pass blocking win rate, often leaving Geno Smith (and other Raiders quarterbacks) with no time to let a play develop. Out of 199 qualifying offensive linemen, Linderbaum in 2025 was graded by Pro Football Focus as the league 121st best pass blocker. He was ranked 19th in run blocking. After being regularly hit behind the line of scrimmage in a miserable rookie season, Ashton Jeanty could have room to run behind a Linderbaum-led Raiders line in 2026. It'll be a nice little change for the Silver and Black...

"Walker and Dean could make for a downright respectable Raiders linebacker group, a marked shift from 2025, when Vegas linebackers were regularly burned in coverage and on the ground. Last year no Raiders linebacker had a PFF tackling grade in the top half of the league."

Grade on Nakobe Dean signing: B

"When healthy, Dean is an impact player. He plays a lot bigger than his size and is a very fun blitzer to help chip away with the massive void Maxx Crosby leaves behind. Dean was also valued as a leader for Vic Fangio's defense and allowed Zach Baun to have a versatile role in this zone-heavy defense, so there's some versatility included. Dean will be more trusted than Walker on passing downs, but Dean is more of a mixed bag against the run and has an extensive injury history (lisfranc, patella tendon, hamstring). What I do like is that Dean and Walker played together at Georgia, so there's some familiarity built in with this young duo."
