Las Vegas comenzó la temporada 2026 de la mejor manera posible: con una victoria.
Los Raiders derrotaron 27-13 a los Delfines de Miami en el debut oficial de Klint Kubiak como entrenador en jefe en la NFL, mostrando una actuación completa en las tres fases del juego y consiguiendo su triunfo más amplio en un partido inaugural desde 2002, cuando vencieron 31-17 a los Halcones Marinos de Seattle.
Además, los 27 puntos anotados representan la segunda mayor cantidad para los Raiders en sus últimos 35 partidos.
Desde el inicio, la ofensiva de Las Vegas mostró eficiencia. Los Raiders tuvieron tres series ofensivas en la primera mitad y consiguieron puntos en cada una de ellas. Jack Bech y Ashton Jeanty encontraron la zona de anotación por aire, mientras que Matt Gay agregó un gol de campo de 47 yardas para darle a Las Vegas una ventaja de 17-6 al medio tiempo.
Para Bech, fue un momento especialmente importante. El receptor consiguió el primer touchdown de su carrera en temporada regular durante el partido inaugural de su segundo año en la NFL. Como novato en 2025, Bech no logró encontrar la zona de anotación.
"Creo que simplemente tener ese primer año bajo nuestro cinturón y ahora poder salir aquí, entender el ritmo del partido, entender cómo funcionan las cosas y poder reconocer un poco mejor las coberturas realmente ayudó", explicó Bech. "La cantidad de detalles que el Coach (Klint) Kubiak inculca en todo su staff, ofensiva, defensiva y equipos especiales, realmente ha ayudado a ser parte de esto".
La ofensiva también recibió una enorme contribución de Ashton Jeanty.
El corredor terminó con 23 acarreos para 102 yardas, además de seis recepciones para 45 yardas y dos touchdowns. En total, Jeanty tuvo 29 toques de balón, acumuló 147 yardas y encontró la zona de anotación dos veces. Fue apenas la tercera ocasión en su carrera en la NFL en la que Jeanty superó las 100 yardas terrestres.
Esto sucedió exactamente tres semanas después de sufrir una lesión de tobillo en la semana final del campo de entrenamiento, donde tras ello tuvo oportunidades limitadas de practicar. A pesar de ello, su gran actuación fue clave en la victoria del equipo.
"Es más o menos lo que hemos llegado a esperar de él", aseguró el entrenador en jefe Klint Kubiak. "Ha sido un líder durante todo este proceso y lo que hizo esta noche es lo que esperamos de él. Pero hacerlo con un tobillo lastimado, con menos entrenamientos de los que está acostumbrado, creo que simplemente te demuestra el tipo de persona con la que estás tratando".
Aunque Kirk Cousins tuvo algunos errores que tendrá que corregir, el veterano quarterback también hizo historia. Cousins completó 21 de 30 pases para 160 yardas, tres touchdowns y dos intercepciones. Con sus tres pases de anotación, llegó a 301 touchdowns por aire en su carrera, superando a John Elway, quien terminó su carrera con 300, para colocarse en el lugar número 14 de todos los tiempos en la NFL.
El siguiente nombre en la lista es Fran Tarkenton, quien terminó su carrera con 342 pases de touchdown.
"Creo que simplemente es un testimonio de intentar ganar a largo plazo, de tratar de tener buenos hábitos durante un período largo de tiempo", dijo Cousins. "También es un testimonio de las personas con las que he podido trabajar, los entrenadores y los jugadores que me rodean. Estoy realmente agradecido por todas las personas que han sido parte de esto".
La protección de Cousins fue clave, con la línea ofensiva de los Raiders dejándolo limpio al no permitir una sola captura, algo que el equipo no conseguía desde la Semana 4 de 2025, cuando tampoco permitió sacks ante Chicago. Fueron clave también para que el ataque terrestre de los Raiders acumulara 130 yardas, cifra que solo superaron solo dos veces en solo la temporada 2025.
"Sentí que el juego terrestre simplemente nos mantuvo en situaciones favorables de downs y distancia durante gran parte del partido", declaró Cousins. "La manera en que corrimos el balón para comenzar el partido hizo que todo fuera más fácil y abrió gran parte del resto de nuestra ofensiva. Gran protección, eso es lo que nos encanta ver".
La segunda mitad comenzó de manera complicada para Las Vegas. Cousins lanzó una intercepción en su primer pase del tercer cuarto y Miami aprovechó inmediatamente el error. Los Delfines recorrieron 52 yardas en apenas cuatro jugadas y redujeron la diferencia a 17-13.
Pero los Raiders respondieron. Dylan Laube tuvo un regreso de patada de salida de 50 yardas, la segunda vez en el juego donde tuvo un retorno de al menos 45 yardas, dejando a la ofensiva en una excelente posición de campo. Las Vegas aprovechó la oportunidad y Cousins conectó nuevamente con Jeanty para ampliar la ventaja.
"Vino listo para jugar, creo que tuvo un gran comienzo de partido", dijo Kubiak sobre Cousins. "Hubo dos decisiones que quisiera tener de regreso. Esa es la naturaleza de la posición. Es algo que vamos a corregir y limpiar. Pero, en general, jugó fútbol americano ganador".
Del otro lado del balón, la defensa de Las Vegas impuso presión constantemente.
Los Raiders terminaron con cinco capturas de mariscal de campo y siete tacleadas para pérdida de yardaje. Kwity Paye lideró al equipo con dos sacks, Maxx Crosby agregó una y media, Nakobe Dean consiguió una y Folorunso Fatukasi registró media captura.
Además, el novato Treydan Stukes consiguió la primera intercepción de su carrera en la NFL.
"Simplemente seguimos predicando nuestros fundamentos y nuestra técnica", aseveró Stukes. "Salimos con una mentalidad que establecimos hace mucho tiempo sobre cómo vamos a jugar. Creo que los muchachos hicieron un gran trabajo manteniéndose fieles a ese estándar".
Y todavía hubo una última jugada defensiva para cerrar la tarde. En la última posesión ofensiva de Miami, después de la pausa de los dos minutos, Jeremy Chinn forzó un balón suelto que fue recuperado por Quay Walker, poniendo el punto final a una actuación defensiva que generó dos pérdidas de balón.
Los equipos especiales también jugaron un papel importante.
Los regresos de despeje de Laube ayudaron a darle excelentes posiciones de campo a la ofensiva, mientras que, en promedio, Las Vegas comenzó en promedio desde su propia yarda 43.7 sus posesiones después de las patadas de salida ejecutadas por Miami. Matt Gay conectó todas las patadas que intentó, mientras que AJ Cole promedio 63.3 yardas en 3 patadas de despeje, incluyendo una de 72 yardas.
En conjunto, fue una actuación completa de los Raiders.
Claro, hay aspectos por corregir. Las dos intercepciones de Cousins, la facilidad con la que Miami convirtió una de ellas en touchdown y un regreso de kickoff de 79 yardas de los Delfines son situaciones que Las Vegas tendrá que limpiar.
Pero hacerlo después de una victoria siempre es preferible.
Los Raiders arrancaron la temporada con un triunfo convincente, una ofensiva que mostró balance, una línea que protegió a su quarterback, una defensa que generó presión y pérdidas de balón, y unos equipos especiales que ayudaron a establecer una excelente posición de campo.
Ahora llega la primera prueba divisional.
Las Vegas viajará a Los Ángeles para enfrentar en la semana dos a los Cargadores, quienes llegarán a ese encuentro buscando recuperarse después de caer 26-14 ante los Cardenales de Arizona.
La era Klint Kubiak ya tiene su primera victoria. Y ahora, los Raiders buscarán construir sobre ella.
