100 Days of 100 Jersey Numbers - 79

For a total of 100 days, we'll take a look at the men who have played for the Raiders jersey number by jersey number. This series will highlight some of the greatest players in NFL history. In some cases, the player and jersey number are synonymous. In other cases, the jersey number represents sustained greatness at a particular position. Some players are superstitious about their jersey number. Whatever the case may be, jersey numbers are an important part of the fabric of professional football.

The Raiders selected Mo Collins in the 1st round of the 1998 NFL Draft out of Florida.

Fifteen players have worn No. 79 in Raiders history, including several offensive linemen who really knew how to control the line of scrimmage.

Don Deskins – DT – 1960

Deskins played in 14 games for the Raiders in 1960, and was credited with one kickoff return for 15 yards.

Volney Peters – DT – 1961

Peters joined the Raiders after two years with the Chicago Cardinals, four with the Washington Redskins, one with the Philadelphia Eagles and one with the Los Angeles Chargers. He played in 12 games for the Raiders in 1961.

Orville Trask – DT – 1962

Trask joined the Raiders after two years with the Houston Oilers. He played in seven games in 1962.

Harry Schuh – T – 1965-70

The Raiders selected Schuh in the 1st round of the 1965 AFL Draft out of Memphis. He played in 84 games with 55 starts for the Raiders. He went on to play for the Los Angeles Rams and the Green Bay Packers.

Don Medlin – G – 1974-76, 1979

The Raiders selected Medlin in the 6th round of the 1972 NFL Draft out of North Carolina State. He played in 48 games with four starts in two stints with the Raiders wrapped around two years with Tampa Bay. He wore No. 68 during his second tour of duty with the Raiders in 1979.

Bruce Davis – T – 1979-87

The Raiders selected Davis in the 11th round of the 1979 NFL Draft out of UCLA. He played in 121 games with 76 starts. He was a key member of the Raiders 1983 Super Bowl XVIII championship team. He was acquired by the Houston Oilers in 1987 and played two and a half seasons with the Oilers.

Brian Belway – DE – 1987

Born and raised in Canada, Belway played in one game for the Raiders in 1987.

Bob Golic – DT 1989-92

Golic joined the Raiders after three years with New England and seven with Cleveland. He played in 57 games with 53 starts and recorded 8.5 sacks and three fumble recoveries.

Ken Lanier – T – 1993

Lanier joined the Raiders after 12 years with the Denver Broncos. He played in two games with two starts. He finished his career with four games with the Broncos in 1994.

Jeff Kysar – T – 1995

The Raiders selected Kysar in the 5th round of the 1995 NFL Draft out of Arizona State. He saw action in one game in 1995.

Mo Collins – G/T – 1998-03

The Raiders selected Collins in the 1st round of the 1998 NFL Draft out of Florida. He played in 71 games with 64 starts. Collins was a member of an offensive line that paved the way for the NFL's top rushing attack in 2000 and the NFL's #1 offense in 2002.

Paul McQuistan – G – 2006-09

The Raiders selected McQuistan in the 3rd round of the 2006 NFL Draft out of Weber State. He played in 35 games with 12 starts. He went on to play three years in Seattle and recently signed with the Cleveland Browns.

John Henderson – DT – 2010-11

Henderson joined the Raiders after eight years in Jacksonville. He played in 22 games with five starts and recorded 48 solo tackles.

Willie Smith – T – 2012

Smith joined the Raiders after a year with the Redskins. He played in nine games with seven starts. He spent time with the Chargers in 2013.

Tony Pashos – T – 2013

Pashos joined the Raiders after three years with the Baltimore Ravens, two with Jacksonville, one with San Francisco and two with Cleveland. He played in 12 games with 12 starts in 2013.
