High School Coach of the Week

The Oakland Raiders High School "Coach of the Week" program promotes high school football, giving high school coaches and teams the recognition that they deserve. 

Designed to honor coaches who have created successful programs for teams and players, both on and off of the playing field, the "Coach of the Week" program provides teams with financial assistance to maintain their football programs.  During each week of the high school season, the Oakland Raiders will select one high school coach as the "Coach of the Week" winner. 

Each recipient will be awarded a $1,000 donation to the school?s football program from The Oakland Raiders and the NFL Youth Football Fund, a certificate signed by The Oakland Raiders Head Coach Tom Cable, and an Oakland Raiders "Coach of the Week" cap.

2009 Oakland Raiders High School Coach of the Year

First-year head coach Isamu Falevai, from Fremont High School in Oakland, Calif., was named The Oakland Raiders High School Coach of the Year for the 2009 season. The Tigers defeated Oakland Tech 18-6 in the Oakland Athletic League title game. Sione Tupouata ran for a career-high 296 yards and two touchdowns in the win. This is the first Silver Bowl title in school history for the Tigers.

2009 High School Coaches of the Week

Week 1: Alonzo Carter, from Berkeley High School, was named The Oakland Raiders High School "Coach of the Week."  The Berkeley Yellowjackets defeated the Freedom Falcons last Friday 26-7 in non-league action.  With the win, the Yellowjackets are 2-0 on the season.

Week 2: Terry Smith, from Tennyson High School, was named The Oakland Raiders High School "Coach of the Week." The Tennyson Lancers defeated the William C. Overfelt Royals last Friday 40-27. T.J. Ner rushed for 154 yards and three touchdowns. Ner also returned a punt 35 yards for another score as the Lancers advanced to 2-0 on the season.

Week 3: Jamaal Kizziee, from Skyline High School was named The Oakland Raiders High School "Coach of the Week." The Titans defeated Bishop O'Dowd High School 31-28. The Dragons led the game until Skyline quarterback John Langstrom hit Jason Suell for a 20-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter. Langstrom finished 3-for-3 for 94 yards.

Week 4: Rich Swift, from Newark Memorial High School, was named The Oakland Raiders "Coach of the Week

."* The Cougars defeated Kennedy-Fremont in Mission Valley Athletic League action, 23-0, at Tak Fudenna Stadium last weekend. Anthony Benavente connected on three field goals and the Cougars defense held the Titans to just 91 yards.

Week 5: Joe Tenorio, from Encinal High School, was named The Oakland Raiders "Coach of the Week." The Jets defeated Piedmont High School, 38-6, in a Bay Shore Athletic League game last weekend. Jon Trodder and Kimani Washington both had 93 yards on six carries. The Jets are 4 -1 on the season, while the Highlanders fall to 2-3.

Week 6: Steve Rochlin, from Alameda High School, was named The Oakland Raiders "Coach of the Week." The Hornets defeated Hercules High School, 45-0, in an Alameda Contra Costa Athletic League victory over the Titans. Mike Cunningham carried the ball 15 times for 163 yards and three touchdowns. Alameda improves to 3-3-1 on the season, as Hercules falls to 2-4.

Week 7: Brian Hamilton, from Concord High School, was named The Oakland Raiders "Coach of the Week." The Minutemen defeated Clayton Valley High School 56-20 to improve to 6-1 (2-0 Diablo Valley Athletic League) on the season. The loss snapped a 16-game regular season winning streak for the Eagles.

Week 8: Keith Minor, from Saint Mary's College High School, was named The Oakland Raiders "Coach of the Week." The Panthers defeated John Swett High School 42-7 to improve to 6-2 on the season. Running back Demetrius Brown-Ryan rushed for 285 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries.

Week 9: Kenny Kahn, from El Cerrito High School, was named The Oakland Raiders "Coach of the Week." The Gauchos defeated Alameda High School 28-21 to improve to 6-3 on the season. With nine seconds left in the game, QB Byron Thomas connected with Andre Williams for a 14-yard touchdown. Thomas threw for 333 yards.

Week 10: Isamu Falevai, from Fremont High School in Oakland, Calif., was named The Oakland Raiders "Coach of the Week." The Tigers defeated Castlemont High School 26-18 in the regular season finale at Curt Flood Field last weekend. With the win, the Tigers take the number two seed in the Oakland Athletic League playoffs.

Week 11: Bill Kepler, from College Park High School in Pleasant Hill, Calif., was named The Oakland Raiders "Coach of the Week." The Falcons upset Amador Valley High School 34-21 in the first round of the North Coast Section Division I playoffs last weekend. With the win, the Falcons will take on #11 seed Washington High School at Tak Fudenna Stadium in Fremont, Calif., on November 28.
